My driving experience is from local areas, and would like to get more info on hours of service. I understand the basics, however I was reading(not in this forum) that there is several ways to stay legal. It would also be good if someone(not that anyone would ever use it but) would explain multiple log books and how that works?

The multiiple logs books is something that no one should go anywhere near. To explain logs books without a specific question is a huge undertaking. Can you ask a specific question on what you want to learn more about?

It's a felony to falsify log and there is no way to cheat without being caught . Don't try using 2 log books . DOT officials have been known to make copies of your logs and fax them to other scale houses . I watched an Illinois trooper fax copies of my logbook to HQ from his patrol car . Auditors cross check fuel slips , weight tickets , fax times and more . They also use PC Miler software to check driving times . If you can't make money running legally you are with the wrong carrier .

How many hours a day can you drive? Can a person drive as many days in a row after the required amount of sleep? Is there a government web to get the specs?

You can drive a total of 14 in any given 24 hour period. You can drive 11 hours then must rest for 10 hours and can start driving again. After 70 hours of on duty/driving time you must take a 34 hour break. One major problem with the hos is the 14 hour rule. This rule starts your so called clock when you first go on duty or start driving. So lets say you had a 10 hour sleep break,then delivered at 0600. At 2000 that night you are dead in the water even though you may have done nothing all day. You will not be legal again untill another 10 hour break is logged. So your day is essentially shot unless you deliver at 0600 and maybe get another trip that you can finish by 2000.

Dual log books are a thing of the past and the penalties are severe if you are caught.

You can drive eleven hours a day as long as this does not exceed a 14 hour period. If you start your day at 6:00 a.m. drive to a shipper arrive at 10:00 wait three hours to get loaded, secured and on your way then drive till 3:00 stop for fuel and a snack 1/2 hour drive till 5:00 stop for supper for an hour you can then only drive till 8:00 and you will be out of hours on your 14 hour clock even though you still have drive hours left. You must shut down for ten hours before you can drive again with some exceptions and that gets pretty deep pretty fast. You can 60 hours in seven days or 70 hours in eight days before you have to have the 34 hour restart this only happens if you max out every day which we have found does not happen with us. We very seldom get to where we both have to have a 34 hour restart. If you are running a Team operation and both drivers hit the 70 hour limit it means you made a lot of money.

on this hos,one exception to the rule,lets say you came off your 10 hour brake,your at the receiver,and getting unloaded,and your day is starting at 6am,if you spend 2 hrs unloading,you now only have 12 hrs to work for the day,but lest say you have a pick up at 1700.if you spend 8 hrs off in the sleeper,this will stop the 14 hour clock,but you must be in the sleeper for minimum of 8 hrs to stop the clock,now you r really confused,right?

No, This really clears things up. Do you end up loosing loads bacause there isn`t enough time on your clock? Why is there a 34 hour restart? I`ll read through the fmsca and OOIDA (I am a member) for more help.

The 34 restart is simple. Take 34 hours off and you have a fresh 70. But, it looks like we'll be losing it once "they" decide what they're going to do. When that happens, once you hit your 70 you'll have to wait until you drop hours to work again. The best way to understand that is to look at a recap sheet.
