This was written by a 21 yr. old female who gets it. It's her future she's worried about and this is how she feels about the social welfare big government state that she's being forced to live in! These solutions are just common sense in her opinion for the abled bodied..

This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX

PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22-inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good."

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

I love this one.

AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

So maybe there is something encouraging out of todays youth.

Gee, in my day if you took things out of a store, knowing that you did not have the money to pay for it, it was considered either, theft, shoplifting or higher crimes if the value of the goods went beyond a certain dollar amount.

All those involved, in addition to losing the tax payer funding, should be charged accordingly. Arrest them, prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

They are stealing from those who earned that money in the first place as well as making it more difficult for those who may need, or least not abuse, the system.

Hopefully they do follow through as they say they will.

To make it worse, we are talking about the state of LA. They have FANTASTIC fresh water fishing. It is CHEAP. A cane pole and hook license costs only $2.50 PER YEAR! Bait can be had for free. There is cane growing all over the state, a pole can be cut for free. A box of hooks is less than $10 bucks. A small spool of line, a couple of bucks. That is VERY little money to provide a LOT of very good, fresh food. Even a basic resident license, that would allow rod and reel fishing, is only $9.50 per year. No excuse to go hungry. Nuthin like a mess of fresh brim to make a nice meal.

Got me thinking.....waive the fishing licenses and eliminate the welfare. Heck, why stop there. Buy them a fishing pole. Only have to buy that once and they are on their own. I kinda like it.
I mean...they got nothing but time.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.

Teach him to fish and he sits in a boat and drinks beer.

Back to square one.

Lots of "poor" people take advantage of wild foods to help them survive. The food is good, it's "earned", and being able to provide for one's own needs helps to build confidence and give's one a sense of accomplishment.

The 21 yr. old female in question is a 56 year old man named Alfred W. Evans of Gatesville, Texas, who wrote the letter to the editor of the Waco Tribune Herald, which was published in the November 18, 2010 edition. Evans spent 20 years in the Army and works as a computer specialist for the Texas Department of Transportation.

The reason the letter was morphed into that being penned by a young woman is because people tend to be less dismissive when they think these ideas come from a young woman, the stereotypical liberal, rather than an old white guy, the stereotypical conservative, and it affords people the opportunity to say things like, "she gets it," and make comments about her musings of the future she's being forced to live in. :D

Evans decided to write the letter after witnessing something in the grocery store. A woman accompanied by a group of children “about emptied out the meat counter,” he told the newspaper, then paid for her purchases with a Lone Star card, which acts like a debit card for food stamps. "The woman paid for other items, mostly junk food that isn’t covered by the Lone Star card, with bills from a large wad of cash," Evans said.

After walking into the parking lot, he became even more angry, Evans said. The woman loaded her groceries "into a Chevrolet Suburban with specialty wheel rims," he said.

“I got into my 10-year-old [Ford] F150 truck and thought, ‘I just paid for everything she just put in her truck,’ ” Evans said.

After thinking about it, he admits that he has no idea if she owned the Surbuban, doesn't know where she got the cash from, and doesn't have any idea if the children she was with were hers or not, and that there may be other factors involved of which he is not aware. Evans told the newspaper that he doesn’t oppose all government assistance, his beef is with people who abuse the system and admits that he doesn't know if this woman is abusing the system or not, but he knows that some people do. He also told the newspaper that he doesn’t regret writing the letter and he doesn’t care what people think about him because of it.

Such a bummer. No hope for the youth afterall. ;) But I do like some of his observations.
One of those "it is the thought that counts"

I'd totally agree with the idea of not allowing voting if collecting government assistance - as long as it applies to every corporate entity and politician that claims government subsidies/benefits as well. ;)

... And people would line up to donate those things if it meant the recipients would be providing for themselves afterward.

"They say if you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish.... then he's gotta get a fishing license, but he doesn't have any money. So he's got to get a job and get into the Social Security system and pay taxes, and now you're gonna audit the poor (obscenity), 'cause he's not really good with math. So he'll pull the IRS van up to your house, and he'll take all your (obscenity). He'll take your black velvet Elvis and your Batman toothbrush, and your (seed toys), and that all goes up for auction with the burden of proof on you because you forgot to carry the one, 'cause you were just worried about eating a (obscenity) fish, and you couldn't even cook the fish 'cause you needed a permit for an open flame. Then the Health Department is going to start asking you a lot of questions about where are you going to dump the scales and the guts. 'This is not a sanitary environment'... "

Had a similar moment on my way to work recently. Stopped at a convenience store to pick up some items for lunch. While there, a young, able-bodied couple came in and axed the clerk if they accepted EBT cards, and he said they do. Here I am, on my way to work, and I'm paying for my lunch and theirs. Why am I doing this?

The House and Senate and the President do the above all the time..

Since a politician is an actual person it would be easy to identify them and restrict them from voting on anything that directly affects them. Corporations aren't individuals and don't vote.
