FMCSA seeks to relax requirements for vision exemptions | Regulations content from Fleet Owner

The FMCSA may relax the requirements for their vision waiver by reducing, or even better eliminating the requirement for a driver to already have 3 years' experience driving a CMV before applying for the waiver. For me, this is hugely good news: after all, how can you legally drive a CMV without a medical card anyway? The 3-year requirement has prevented me from getting the waiver before, and has been for me actual proof of the concept of "Catch 22".

There is a comment period starting for this (as noted in the article) and I shall comment on it as soon ad I finish this post. Please pray for me/send good thoughts my way/etc. Thanks!! :)

Yup. But no waiver, no med card, and that means even as a vanner, some companies won't sign me on. This includes top-tier companies such as Load One, the Fed, etc. Besides, who said I hadda stay in a van forever? :D

It is one of the stupider things carriers do....it is probably an insurance requirement....that should have been argued against when the policy/rule first came out...

In regards to the medical card, I view it as a good thing.
Many drivers wouldn't see a Dr if it wasn't for this physical.
A good Dr may find issues that will help a driver.
In case of an accident it can be proven that at hiring the driver was deemed healthy enough to drive.

That is a good point....somewhat......Many van drivers do NOT even have a CDL.....heck taxi drivers have to get one....and they haul school children around in some areas.....
