I was just in a Meijers store and saw they carry the Honeywell 2000 I suitcase style generator inverter for $549.00. It looks to be very comparable to the Honda for a lot less money.

Bought the same one online for $489 free shipping. It it a full 2000 watt run rating with a 2200 surge rating...

I bought one when they were on sale at Home Depot for $300. It is a good generator, but not as small, or light, or as quiet as a 2000w honda. But for the money, it cannot be beat.

The reviews on this were mixed. The following is a part of a review from a less than thrilled purchaser. It is not my comment. I took it off the site. In fairness there were some good reviews too. This one just made me laugh.

A few weeks after, I was unable to start it during a winter power failure in the country; (the exercises kept me warm though, over 200 pulls before I quit).

Hey I can relate to that guy!! I pulled the cord on mine last week just to run it since it had been a while. I pulled that cord more then 20 times, till i realized the "kill switch" was on......

I was just in Meijers so I checked this out. On the box it said not suggested for use of microwaves, computers, & refrigerators. I'm not really generator savvy yet, but why wouldn't it be ideal for those uses?

Dunno, since it's all a matter of wattage. A laptop won't pull much at all, and even a desktop with a CRT monitor won't pull much more than 400 watts at most. A fridge, that one can be a lot if it's a full size fridge. With a fridge that's pulling 750 watts (a big 16 cubic feet frost-free fridge), you have to figure three times that for startup, which is too much for that generator. Some microwaves are like that, too. Anything with an induction motor can cause an overload at startup if the generator isn't a high wattage generator.

If you have something else running, even a light, and a fridge, TV, microwave cuts in, it can trip the overload. But a coffee maker will pull between 900-1200 watts, a hair dryer about 1500-1875, and an electric heater 1500 watts. Obviously you won't want to run a heater while making coffee while watching TV.

I can't imagine that to be much of a problem for most folks out here. A 3000 watt generator would be better, but if you are careful, 2000 watts should be fine. It has two 20 amp outlets, but only puts out 16.7 amps total, so keep that in mind. 2000 watts / 120 VAC = 16.7 amps.

It could also have a problem with the electricity it puts out, it might not be "clean enough". While micro-waves, computers will run on "dirty" electricity they run better on "clean" or true sine wave electricity. They last longer if run on true sine wave power as well.

I have been using the Honeywell for a year and it does a good job. I got mine at Home Depot last year for 299. Check with Harbor freight or Northern Tools. They are quiet, easy to carry and ran my van window unit and electric skillet with no problem. I would change the sparkplug asap to keep it running smoother, and get the oil level right up to the top lip of the fill resorvoir. It is sensitive to cutting off if it is tilted and will cut off if the oil level goes down about 2 oz. It will run a window unit about 6 hours at 500 watts useage. an after market 6 gallon tank can be hooked up so u dont have to keep refueling it. The tank looks like a 6 gallon tank that fits an outboard motor engine. U can order them off the net.

It is a good generator if you keep it in your basement and use it couple times per year.It is not for daily use. I have bought Honda and Honeywell ,huge,HUGE difference. I will never buy a Honeywell generator. I will spend an extra 500 and I will go with Honda.
