Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, Crazy, but here goes:
In January of 1999, we were with Roberts Express, and did pretty well because we were driving for an owner and got preferential treatment. Once we bought our own truck in June, we did okay because the freight was there.
By January of 2000, we had switched companies to Landstar Express America, and were in the same boat it sounds like you're in right now -- maybe one run per week, and sometimes a short one, at that. We figured that the Y2K scare had stimulated shippers and recievers to stockpile supplies, but things never did pick back up to the point that we were just hopping and jumping -- for any of the companies, to judge by the posts on the various forums.
This year, we had the presidential election to throw a monkey wrench into the works, and with so many smaller players emerging on the scene (40-or-less-trucks companies), the larger companies are going to have a hard time competing, price-wise.
Another major factor is that the Expedite industry is rather closely tied to the Automotive industry, and they aren't doing too well right now, so i'm afraid that we're in for some real slow times again this year.
i hope this doesn't sound too depressing -- everything always picks up in the summer, and we're all due for a phenomenal season! (From my lips/fingers to God's Ears, right??? ;-) )

Godspeed to all of you out there on the highways and byways!
