Honda 2000i generator fuel connection

I need to know if I can run a Honda 2000i generator off of the vans fuel supply. Has anyone done this? If you haven't, do you know whether or not it could be done?

If I could eliminate the need for an extra fuel can, I could possibly find a suitable mounting location for the generator on the exterior of the van. I would really like to get the fuel from the van fuel tank though.

P.S.: I've seen the setups mounted to the rear doors. That is an option, but I think I have a better location...if I can get the fuel from the van's tank.

I have no idea about the Honda, but i do know that the honeywell has a fuel pump even though it has a gravity flow tank. I am considering doing exactly what you are asking and know how i will set it up on my Honeywell and the CargoMax, but again, I am not sure if the Honda has a fuel pump, if it does, you can do what you want...and maybe you can also, as long as the generator fuel tank is lower then the pickup point of the pickup tube you would have to install...if it is, all you would have to do is install a pickup, fuel line, prime the line and connect it to the generator. The connection can be made in a few different ways...

I seen a guy in laredo with a box truck ...he drilled a hole in the top of the trucks tank...and ran a fuel line to the back of the truck....then had a quick connect of sorts to hook into his Honda 2000i.. he had a primer ball @ the end of it ...I was told they DO have a fuel.pump?..where are you planning on mounting the gen.???

The picture in the lower right corner shows a SenDec digital hour meter attached to one of the Honda generators. Is anybody using one of these or a similar hour meter to record run times? The SenDec sells for about $30. Well worth the price if it works.

$30 seems like a reasonable price to me to keep track of total hours compared to recording run times with pencil and paper. If I could afford a secretary, I would go that route.

I don't have a generator, but some day I may. I'm kinda anal about scheduled maintenance and I'm sure the Honda requires some maintenance, oil changes, air filter etc. all based on run time.

I have a Honda lawn mower. It doesn't have an hour meter. I change oil 3 times a season.

My van has an odometer. I base my maintenance on a per mile basis. If the odometer were to ever cease working, I would replace it immediately. Sure, I could count mile markers, use the gps or pull out an atlas to keep track of mileage. But, I find it easier to use the odometer. Besides being anal, I'm also lazy!

In my "mind" and experience I know how long it has run (Gen) sometimes the oil gets thick and the auto-shutoff kicks in...and that reminds me it is time....I carry oil with me..it takes about 3/4 of a quart....I drain it into a 20 oz coffee cup..and use another a fill it up 3/4 full and that pretty well fills it up....this is when I check the air filter and wash it out with boiling water....I take out the spark plug and brush it up IF carbonized with wifes nail file....lol

If I owned a Sprinter I could record operating hours by circling rust spots with a Magic Marker. Nickle size rust spots = 5 hrs., dime size rust spots 10 hrs. etc.

Just an FYI, the SenDec inductive meter works well. I have two of them on my generators for the house and one sitting waiting to be installed on the riding lawnmower if I ever get around to getting it going. I had the plain hour meters for the honda generators which worked well but liked the idea of the tach so they were swapped. The only thing I can say bad about the inductive meter I should have thought of it first.
