Maybe some of you owners can give me some information. I'm thinking about putting a driver in my cargo van.
Its going to be a 60/40 split. I get 40% of all loaded miles.
DRIVER INCOME: gets 60% loaded miles
gets 100% Fuel Surcharge, 100%Paid Deadhead/Bonus miles,
100% any hand load/hand unload
100% layover
100% Detention
DRIVER EXPENSES:
Pays for all fuel
Pays all tolls
Pays for Worker's Comp
Anything Else????
OWNER PAYS:
Truck / Cargo Ins
Weekly QC expenses
QC Escrow
Insurance Escrow
Anything else ?????
Are there any other items I should know about as to be fair to the driver. And also as to not short change myself out of any money.
I really want to be honest/ fair up front with this driver.
When I was out there on the road. I talked to many drivers, that I felt was getting the shaft from some of their owners.
This driver is willing to stay out 3wks at a time.
Any help would be appericated

Well sence he is going to be more like a sub contractor. I would assume he would pay his own W/C the same as any contractor would.
Wouldn't you agree?

Who will be responsible for the following?

Repairs routine and major
Plates / Permits

And if the vehicle is crossing the border into Canada what about fast transponder and US Customs Decal?

Medical Insurance

Just a couple of extra things.

Against all odds

On the driver income side I think the layover and detention pay should be 60/40 because your equipment is being tied up from any other revenue generating activity. I agree with the other split percentages, especially the 100% on load/unload. I also think companies that don't pay 100% to the truck are wrong, wrong, wrong but that's a different thread. Good luck to you.
