What company offers the highest percentage of the line haul?

Thus far, Load One is the highest that I have seen at 67%-70%.

The percent means little if you don't know what it is based against.

As in.....would you rather have 80 percent of $1.50 or 70 percent of say $2.00?

A thought to ponder.

I would hope that the percent would be based against the actual cost of the load. I have heard some people express mistrust of the carrier's willingness to accurately report that cost to their drivers. However, I have also been told that drivers have a legal right to see the billing information to verify that they are being paid based on the actual cost of the load.

Obviously the percentage doesn't really mean much until one knows what it's based against. 70% of $2.00 is greater than 80% of $1.50.

However, I'm not looking at a system where the percentage varies based on the price of the load. I looking at a system where the percentage is fixed and the load price varies. Higher priced loads mean more revenue. Lower priced loads mean less revenue. In either case, I would like a higher fixed percentage.

The issue is that if you work for a cut rate carrier that consistently bids freight to 1.50 then having a fixed percentage of 80% has less value than a company that keeps the rate at 2.00 and you get 70%. The way a company bids freight is just as important as the percentage paid.

A company that allows you to pick off whatever spot market freight from wherever you can find it for the lowest possible percentage is the best one. One that allows you to book and negotiate rates on your own loads. Also getting access to freight bills, which they are required by law to show you, should be a simple straightforward process of simply asking for and having it emailed to you in a timely fashion. Anything else, with regards to sharing that specific info, is a BIG red flag that you are dealing with and/or working for a shady carrier that is cutting more than what the contract states is their precentage and stealing from you. It is hard to say whether one carrier taking 10% versus another taking 30% is better or not without knowing their contract rates. What sorts of opportunity do they have with spot freight or is it all contract freight? With spot pricing it's whatever you can get so obviously the less the carrier takes the better.
