Anyone traveling through SE Michigan over the next 24 hours should be mindful of the winds. There is a strong west wind blowing. It will be a crosswind on I75 blowing west to east. Gusts over 30MPH are common right now. Be careful.

For those who understand the Great Lakes and it's weather, there is a seiche in progress. Lake levels are dropping fast.

Thank you for the compliment. I won't go into the REAL reason for the storm, you and several others in here would start to cry.

For everyone else, be careful. It is bad right now.

Just yanking your chain Joe.... but a 30 mph wind is just a breeze where I live...:p

Yanking back. It is the gusts that are the problem. Along with the isolated ice patches. 30MPH is not bad if it sustained. I suspect that we will see higher gusts as well. The weather service is not very good at predicting wind speeds around here. They tend to underestimate most of the time. It is MORE than enough to move Lake Erie. We will likely see a 4 to 6 foot drop in Lake levels over the next 36 hours.

I wonder if there is a problem on I75? there are suddenly a LOT of T/T rigs running on the road in front of my house. WAY more than normal. Not gravel trains either, over the road stuff.

Heading out into now. Have to get a haircut. Must get all spiffed up so I can look purdy at the Ducks Unlimited Dinner on Saturday. The more purdy I be the more money we make. I was REAL purdy last year, this year will be better!

Lake levels are dropping fast.

A little slack in the dock lines maybe in order for some that jumped the gun and put the boats in.

I drove through those winds in Iowa yesterday, US 20 to and from Waterloo. Heavy gusts and blowing snow across open prairie make for interesting driving.

The problem with Lake Erie isn't the lowering water levels when the wind is blowing. The problem is that water is going to come back after the storm. Seiche waves can be serious business, on the order of small tidal waves.

Have lived through both. The lowering levels are bad too. It can make it impossible to get off the Lake in many places. There will be NO water at all.

This is a storm that closely resembles the "gales of November". ANY boat that is in one of the affected marinas will be sitting on mud.

The wind is REALLY cookin' out there right now. They got it wrong, again. MUCH higher than predicted. I could buy it's 30 knots or better out there. WAY higher than the 25mph they said this morning.

At the Petro [mm 167] the truck is rocking & the wind is just howling!

That reminds me - anyone else ever hear the wind behind parked trucks making a kind of musical sound? I used to hear it sometimes, walking the dog, and it was like whale songs, I think - odd, but cool.
This wind isn't cool at all!
