New York City Gun Violence: 25 Shot In 48 Hours, Six Dead

A bloody weekend of gun violence in New York City has left six people dead. In just 48 hours, 25 people across four boroughs were shot, CBS reports...............

New York City Gun Violence: 25 Shot In 48 Hours, Six Dead

Let me get this straight.

You post an article that says this:
"The surge of violence this weekend brings the number of gun casualties in New York City to around 440 for 2013, still a 23 percent drop from the same time last year."

Then you ask this:

"How's those STRICT Gun Control Laws working out for your City / State???"

So it is your conclusion that the new stricter gun laws are responsible for the 23 percent drop in gun casualties?

I'm wondering who is the responsible party for taking inventory on the Barcoloungers. Same math problem whiz, perhaps?

25 shot and 6 dead in one weekend - but hey, that's good news! The total is still less than last year (so far). But Chicago still leads the nation in gun violence in spite of Democrat leadership and strict gun laws of its own.

Taking a current snapshot of Chicago right now is meaningless without looking at it's long history of violence.
Trying to correlate gun laws with levels of gun violence over the long term may give you results that are the opposite of what you are implying in your post.

Chicago homicides since 1990

2012: 506 * * 2000: 633
2011: 435 * * 1999: 643
2010: 436 * * 1998: 704
2009: 459 * * 1997: 761
2008: 513 * * 1996: 796
2007: 448 * * 1995: 828
2006: 471 * * 1994: 931
2005: 451 * * 1993: 855
2004: 453 * * 1992: 943
2003: 601 * * 1991: 927
2002: 656 * * *1990: 851
2001: 667

If you insist on following your line of thinking notice that after 1994 there has been a steady decrease in homicides.

As for this year. Same story as New York:

Chicago seemed the capital of gun violence when 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was killed by a stray round there just days after performing at President Obama’s second inauguration.*
But even then, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy was reorganizing the department and implementing new strategies that would lead to a dramatic reduction in the violence.

The result: a nearly 40 percent drop in the murder rate and a 30 percent drop in shootings over the same period last year. These recent statistics mean 74 lives saved and 206 fewer shooting victims.*

Speaking of Chicago-style starts:
Chicago’s gun laws keep getting tougher, but more people are breaking them

Less clear is what the laws have accomplished. Thousands of gun owners in Chicago are ignoring the regulations, surrounding areas have looser regulations, and demand remains high for guns through both legal and illegal avenues.
Even supporters of the city's gun laws admit they don't address the social problems behind the shootings that continue to plague Chicago—400 so far this year. "You can try to legislate morality but it's really not something you can do," saysJason Ervin, alderman of the 28th Ward, a stretch of Chicago's west side battered by crime and disinvestment. "But I would hope people comply with the laws."

Chicago, New York, Detroit, Atlanta...all these large metro areas with high crime rates have one thing in common, and it's not a gun problem - it's a culture problem.

That snapshot is useless, unless you break it down into weapons used... guns, baseball bats, or Barcoloungers.
