Can't you clean up some of the adds, some of that stuff is over two years old, make any of the search functions useless?

Not complaining, just asking. Heck I sold my truck on here so thanks.

Sure you're complaining. But it's a good complaint. For some reason, the 90 day expiration isn't working.

It's actually nice to have the old ads because there is a function at the bottom of the ad that lets you see all ads posted by this user. Could be helpful in the long run.

I knew there was a good reason for them to be up. I just couldn't think of it at 2:15 in the morning. :p

A few times I've recognized a name and done a search to see what else they've sold (or the same truck 5 times).

The long and short of it….

This is an issue that goes back 5 or 6 years ago. At that time, most visitors to EO visited only from their home - long before the days of widespread WI-FI and at best they visited only on a weekly or monthly basis.

We received many requests to allow the ads to go beyond the standard 30 or 90 day term. We disabled the auto-delete in the system

Fast forward to 2007 - almost everyone has access to WI-FI daily and most of our visitors hit the site daily.

We are in the final days of a 1.5 year upgrade on the Classified System (and the Forum too). This issue will be resolved with this upgrade. Also, there will be a ton of new features.

Stay tuned for more….

Lawrence,
I also want to throw something in here, have you ever considered a 'lite' version (or Mobile version) of EO for some of us who get that lousy connection and very slow sub-dialup speed?

Yes, we have the infrastrucure laid out with this upgrade. It will detect your browser and move you to that mobile user server.

That's good mobile phone users (like me sometimes) will enjoy the access but the problem is the system does not detect connection speed and this is a problem for a few of us with AT&T (pilot truck stops too). What I meant was a lighter version of the site to load faster with a couple ads or no ads (yes I know it is not a good thing to say no ads). When dealing with some of the connections out there load times can be measured in minutes.

Greg, could you just disable the images for faster loading speeds?

You know I tried that but there is still a lag in loading the page because of a couple reasons - remember many of these services cache the pages before they reach you.

When I had a customer who wanted to reach out to the 'mobile' users, we used to set up pages with just text and nothing else - no tabs, no boxes, not a lot of fancy stuff and the pages loaded fast. I know part of the problem is the server and how it delivers the page (many times the images and other parts are loaded first, like the web tracking stuff).

Hey Lawrence.

I had actually found that the old ads were very useful as some of these trucks still haven't sold in a year or two. Will there be a feature to notify the person with the ad that the ad will be deleted and do they need to update it?
