.... just another another Ground Hog Day in Amerika: The Movie:

US deploys 12,000 troops in Libya

The United States has sent some 12,000 soldiers to Libya, in the first phase of deployments to the oil-rich North African nation.

According to Asharq Alawsat, the troops landed in the eastern oil port city of Brega.

Although the deployment is said to be aimed at generating stability and security in the region, the troops are expected to take control of the country's key oil fields and strategic ports.

Brega, the site of an important oil refinery, serves as a major export hub for Libyan oil. The town is also one of the five oil terminals in the eastern half of the country.

Following the popular uprising of the Libyan people, NATO launched a major air campaign against the forces of the former regime on March 19, 2011 under a UN mandate to “protect the Libyan population.”

The Western military alliance, however, was heavily criticized for its failure to protect civilians and taking action beyond the terms of the UN mandate.

On October 20, Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was killed in his hometown of Sirte, eight months into an uprising that put an end to his 42-year dictatorship.

Human rights groups have accused NATO of committing war crimes and human rights violations against Libyans.

Wth.............
My thoughts exactly ....

But then I'm not entirely surprised ....... there's a video floating around out there of General Wesley Clark from some years ago, giving a speech or talk before some group or forum ....

Anyhow, either he didn't know he was being recorded, or one of his handlers wasn't paying attention and really let him wander off the farm ...

In the speech that he discloses that he was at the Five Sided Wind Box visiting someone and saw a (classified) paper which laid out plans for the invasion and regime change in a number of countries in the Middle East and Africa ..... Libya was on the list ... and so is Syria ...

From what he said, it wasn't a "maybe" ..... it was a "we're gonna" ....

I'll see if I can find the link.

Haven't time to look at it right now, I'll get back to it later today but what is the point of this whole thing???

I think the point is that if the population accepts this as an action that is needed, we can't complain when we are hated more and people get killed all for something we don't get anything out of.

I don't know which "this thing" you're talking about. if it's the overall mid east destabilization, what I heard was that the united states government has concluded that the chinese juggernaut cannot be stopped. they're on the way up and we're on the way down. so the decision was, the only way to control the chinese is to control the oil at the tap. Hence...

There's not really much in the way of confirmation on this story, including none from Asharq Alawsat itself (PressTV is an Iranian entity). Not too sure about this one.

I've seen it mentioned a few places but nothing that looks like independent confirmation of the original reporting I referenced ....

Remember the "breaking news that was absolutely for sure and for certain true" about the drug cartels who were currently, and I mean right now at this very minute, taking over ranches along the border outside of Laredo and holding the ranchers hostage, not allowing anyone to enter or leave? And how the local police and FBI went and visited the ranchers and found no evidence of anything out of the ordinary, and how some of the ranchers were all, like, "huh!?"

This reminds me of that. :D
