Gentlemen,

I hate removing threads. We try to let things go, in hopes they will 'fizzle out' or be resolved. Every time we remove something we get cries of censorship. So be it.

Personal attacks, no matter how thinly veiled, will not be tolerated, from anyone.

Disagreements are normal. They will happen as long as their are strong personalities. Everyone involved has been asked to take these things to private messages or email.

We cannot, and WILL NOT allow these forums to be disrupted by this kind of thing.

Everyone has something to share that someone else can learn from. This is true whether it is the 20 year vet, or a one week wonder. Each may have learned something new, or unique, that will benefit the forum. Each is entitled to post their insights. Some post short, concise, posts that are 'just the facts', others tend more towards the verbose, elaborating on details that, while to some may be overdoing it, to others, these simply make the story more enjoyable.

Please understand, though you may not agree with everything everyone posts, they are posting from their viewpoint. The smart poster is able to read through all, and gather what they need, and take the rest simply as it is written, someone’s opinion.

The problem lies when one poster, or group of posters, become obsessed with proving another wrong. This is when the forum degenerates.

Please take this as notice that from now on, all personal attacks will be deleted without notice, and those who post them, risk having their posting privileges restricted, or ended.

I for one, do not want this, as I believe there is much to be learned from all, newbie or long time vet.

Please, lets keep it civil.

Thank you Dreamer for putting into words the thoughts of so many of us. When I started to write my thoughts on the same matter I was embarrassed how I was sound a little over the top myself. We got a good thing here, and I for one do not want to see it go down the tubes! Thanks again.

I agree also folks. Lets keep our happy little website as happy as it used to be. All arguments should be directed to the new site designed just for that purpose, www.bickeringsixwheelers.com (at least it's a thought!!) Thanks - X

PS - That is a fake website used for illustration purposes only. It does not exist, at least at this point in time.

I personally dislike censorship in a big way. However I also understand the need for decorum in the forums.

With that in mind I would like to say that I agree with Tom and DD. Remove the offending post. Not the entire thread.

OK,

Since things seem to have settled down a bit, I'll try to explain a bit, then let this post drift.

I do try to erase just the offensive posts when possible. However, if a thread was STARTED in a direction that I feel leans towards strife, or the whole thread has gotten so out of hand that removing all the offensive posts would leave a piece of swiss cheese that makes no sense, I feel it's better to remove the whole thread. That way, hopefully the whole thing can die down. This is circumvented however, when someone starts another thread with the same title, which will gain the same responses, from the same people.

Also, if a thread directly, or INDIRECTLY, in my opinion 'calls out' or insults another poster, then I will shut it down. This even includes calling someone ELSE a flamer, because that will simply make them do it more. We try to catch all of that stuff, but many times it's too late by the time we see it.

I know it's not a perfect system, and sometimes I may err on the heavy side. That is because I've watched 3 other 'decent' boards deteriorate, and I'm a little paranoid. I try my best to be as neutral as possible.

That's why I delete posts, and or threads. I hope you can all understand. Now, I'm sure the other Mods, and Lawrence have their OWN criteria as to why THEY remove stuff, but I wanted to share mine.

If you feel you are being flamed, and a moderator is not on the board, (remember, we work too, we're not here 24/7) then click on "ALERT" on the bottom of the offensive post. That will email an alert to a moderator to please check the post. If you feel someone is posting erroneous information, either NICELY post your opinion, or write them a PRIVATE message questioning their facts. DO NOT just jump in, attack them, and say how wrong they are or what a liar they are, or that they have no business posting.

Thanks for being understanding folks, and keeping this place professional.

I wholeheartedly agree with Dreamer and view my role in the same manner as he. I don't like censorship either and don't view this role as that of a censor; we merely moderate to keep the posts on topic and civil.

I take no offense if any of my posts are removed, if in the judgment of the moderator, removing it helps maintain the quality that EO is famous for. Forums where flaming is permitted quickly degenerate. They either fail altogether, or lose their credibility in the industry if they continue to exist.

Cries of censorship uttered by anyone here should be ignored. This is a MODERATED forum. Participants AGREE to censorship as a condition of being members here. Folks that object can either start their own forum or go to others. But how fun is that? The others lack the quality EO has; precisely because the EO Open Forum is moderated.

My hat is off to moderators that rise to the challenge and understand the difference between a civil exchange of views and personal attacks. It's not an easy job, and at times - because of unfair criticism - it's not a fun job either. Nevertheless, EO moderators have risen to the task.

Keep up the good work folks. Your efforts help keep EO number one and as such, a fantastic resource for people in and looking at getting into our industry. In more ways than you may know, you are making positive differences in peoples' lives.

One thing that people have to remember. The first amendment guarantees free speech as far as the government goes. You can say what you want, within sanity, and they can't do anything to you. It doesn't apply here.
My favorite example is Rush saying... we're living in a democracy, but my show is a dictatorship. :7
