First off..."GOD BLESS" to ALL of you who share your time and a experience on these boards, TRULY, THANKS!
I am a "ROOKIE" (basically) looking to get started with a low milage 2004 swb chevy express 2500 (HD) van.
Where can a new driver go in this business for a Hand Up, not a hand out.
Most profitable rig to run for a full-time OTR solo driver???

I already have a Class A CDL

I would appreciate ANY & ALL advice on Anything & Everything to do with this business..."Thanks in Advance!"

Pay it Forward! :)

Ramblinman: welcome to EO! You've found the right place to get answers, ideas, opinions, etc, so don't blame us if you don't get rich, ok?
Seriously, the answer remains the same: start with the Newbies FAQ, then Newbies Forum, then proceed through every forum, (ok, you can skip the 'just for fun' fora, if you're eyes are crossing) for the past year or so. You will find that most every question you have has been asked, answered, and debated, because that's what we do here.
The next step is to try to talk to expediters you see on the road, usually at truckstops, or Walmart lots. Ask them if they'd recommend their carrier to a newbie, ask how many miles they average each week, or month, how dispatch treats them, etc. (Do keep a few caveats in mind, here: don't approach any vehicle that has the curtains over the windows, ok? Do offer to buy them a cup of coffee in return for their help, and don't forget 2 critical questions: "How long have you been doing this?" and "How many carriers have you driven for, in that time?"
Also, ask ATeam if you can get a copy of "Intro to expediting" (haha, Phil, beat you to it!) it does have some very good information for newbies.
Then you may be ready to call the recruiters for several carriers, and the first question you need to ask is "Are you adding any vans?" because many aren't. (That's a clue, right there - the van market is quite possibly oversaturated at this time.) Having the ability to drive a larger C or D or E unit, you may want to look in that direction - but before you can make any decisions, you need as much information as you can gather.
Last, but certainly not least - check the scheduled seminars listed here, and sponsored by, EO. Attending one will be one of the best investments of time that you can make, truly.
If you do all that, and still have questions, fire away!
Good luck, happy reading, and hope to see you succeed!

Thanks Cheri! Can anyone recommend a "GOOD" carrier for a rookie with a 3/4 ton chevy express van??? I made a BAD/Costly choice last year when I went into Class A OTR Driving (CR England OMG!!!) and I am trying to avoid making the same mistake again here.
I work my rear off but, not for fools!!! Thanks in advance!!!

"Good" is a subjective term: it means what YOU think it means, so how can anyone recommend a 'good' carrier for you? We all have our own preferences, ya know?
The most we can recommend is what I listed in the first reply: gather as much information as you can, to decide what you will consider a good carrier.
Have you considered driving something larger, since you're qualified to do so? And, have you considered driving for an owner, to see whether you want to continue in expediting?

You need to find the company that has the appropriate system for you. What works for some will not work for others. Cheri has the best advice, read, gather as much information as you can. Then, based on the infromation you have, contact recruiters for companies that you think will suit your needs. Not one comapny out there will be everything for everyone. You have to take the good with the bad and find a happy medium.

A "GOOD" carrier is; one who "KNOWS HIS/HER BUSINESS", the value of a dedicated driver and stabs you in the front...Not the back LOL!!!

Yes, I have considered driving a larger rig if it is profitable to do so solo (that was a question in my first post) but, not for someone else. I can buy a my own semi tractor etc. if I can make it pay.

Thanks Again Cheri!!! :)

Are there any female drivers on here who would like to OTR TEAM in either your rig or with me, in a larger one???

Thank You Anne and Hello! So, what about Bolt? Are you looking to put on a "LIKE NEW" 2004 3/4 ton chevy express HD cargo van with a career motivated driver??? OR...should I be looking to upgrade to a Box truck and sleeper or semi Tractor? I just want to "MAKE A LIVING" not a Killing.

As Cheri stated, you would be well served by reading back at least a year in the general, newbies and recruiter forums. You will learn a huge amount that will likely lead you to questions you don't even know to ask now. You'll find that the companies who are sponsors and participants on EO know there business well. As already mentioned, they do operate differently and good will vary depending on personal criteria. The pool of potential jobs increases greatly as you increase your vehicle size. While some do very well in vans many do not. They are the easiest to get started and that leads to the glut that seems to always exist. Invest the time to read back. It should pay off well for you. Good luck.

IF, you give up that easily, this occupation (probably) is not for you. Best you stay (maybe) with the big trucks and the long waits at the shipper and receiver. Your question was like asking which big truck company is best. Ya got an answer for that?

If you're getting into big rigs, I suggest checking out thetruckersreport.com . They have great sections on good and bad companies, and have helped out many newbs get started.

Hopefully, you didn't send anything to JBHunt, as they'll spam you and call you until the end of time!
