My husband and I are looking at walking away from our 9 to 5's, buying an expediter and hitting the road. He drove big truck 48 and Canada for 3 years. Then he joined me working for the City, pushing snow, hauling gravel and laying asphalt.

We are ready to move on and want some seasoned advise. We live at 75 & 70 north of Dayton, Oh. I know we have perfect location.
But who's the best to sign on with? Can we expect to gross a hundred grand or more per year? We're willing to turn miles and haul freight. Wont complain about being on the road, as long as we get home one week a month to visit the grand kids.

Nobody loves there job, but I sure want one I like.

You certainly are in a good location. Are you thinking about a van, or a straight truck? You will not make 100 grand with a van, but maybe with a 6 wheeler, you will. It really comes down to the company you lease with. I live in Canada, so I will not make any firm suggestions, but you might like to look at Try Hours, and Panther, both are in Ohio, and have been in business for a few years each. Good Luck. We're located a little south of Dayton it's a tricky area for expedites some small local companies pay quite well on outbound freight but make little attempt to Load back. The big ones pay less and keep you loaded better from my understanding. We run a 53 ft Dry van for several companies within 200 miles, plus a short dedicated. Expedites originate a lot aroud airports take some time and talk to them if you stay long enough you'll run into them all eventually. Remember every driver story swings with the week he's having.

You might want to check out Landstar Express America. They are a little different than most expeditors because they work through a number of agents rather than through a central dispatch. If interested, you could contact the Dayton agent and arrange to visit them and have them show you how it works. The Dayton agent is at 800-879-7712. There are also agents in Detroit, Cleveland, Akron, Louisville, Cincinnati, Ft Wayne, and Indy (these are the ones close to your home).

Landstar requires 6 months experience. Your husband's previous driving probably will qualify, and I'm not sure about your experience with the highway dept.

We have been really slow the last two weeks, but except for that, we have been pleased with the activity since changing to LEA in March.

recruiting is at 800-622-0658. Orientation is in Rockford, IL.
