Have you ever been accused of being homeless.

Here is a little anecdote of an incident that happened to me in recent weeks. I was layed over at the Petro Stopping Center over by Youngstown, Ohio (the one that is just east of youngstown on I-70). I was layed over for approximately 4 days waiting for a "CSX" railroad load to come out of Cumberland , MD. Much to my own stupidity I held out for a load because I have always gotten decent loads out of that area. But this time was different and I sat there until I went absolutely stir crazy. Then I just decided to deadhead out of that area and ended up getting pinged for a load picking up in Cleveland.

Well, as it goes, I was sitting up in the tv room there for four days straight. I was buying food, taking showers, and I even began to learn everyones first name. Well, my battery went dead on the morning that I decided to reposition and I had to go in and ask one of the fuel island attendants to help me out with a courtesy jump. After I got my truck jumped and the fuel attendant actually realized that I had (a company name and qualcomm) on my van, he seemed to look at me a little bit differently. So, when I went back into the Petro to buy 50 dollars worth of fuel and some smokes, I "with my mother-in-law like hearing" actually overheard a lady in the back saying "gosh, I thought he was one of those young drifters, I would have never suspected he was a driver!"

Any how, it was quite hilarious that they had no idea I was there waiting for a load offer that never came. Kind of like that new Metallica single "the day that never comes; or in this instance, the load that never comes!" I was just wondering if anything such as this has happened to anyone else in this forum.

Ive been told several times that i don't look, talk dress or act like a driver, but never been thought of as homeless. I guess i was in the corp. world too long and i didn't really fit in there!! They THOUGHT I SHOULD BE A DRIVER!! LOL!!

I've never had that one, but I have had quite a few people say I don't look like a trucker because of the way I dress. (All my shirts have collars.) I've been walking into the lounge area of some truck stops and had employees tell me, "That area is for drivers."

Our funniest happening was in Wichita KS with USXpress. We were told to go there to pick up a load on New Year’s Eve and the load canceled. Our daughter lived in Wichita at the time so that was fine with us. We parked the truck in a strip shopping mall that was no longer open. We ended up sitting there for 5 days before we finally got a load. During that time we slept in the truck and when our daughter got off work we spent the evening with her. Every morning we saw a homeless guy on his way to work his corner. On our last day he came over to the truck and offered us food and money to help us out! He thought we were stranded and needed help. We knew then either USX got us a load or they were going to get the truck back!

That was when we decided though that it was time to become and O/O so we could make our own decisions.

lol, the homeless guy offered you guys food. That's pretty bad. But at least it goes to show that the homeless guy was a decent character.

You are simply too attractive! I guess the guy could not resist the urge to ask you out on a date! Did he happen to have a full set of teeth?

I'm thinking it was the idea of a nice warm truck he couldn't resist. As to teeth, who knows.:D

When I was in my mid twenties I wasn't exactly "Homeless" but I was 3000 miles from home. I delivered Advertising circulars door to door for $.65 cents an hour ten hours a day. Slept in 24 hour Movie houses when I could. After two weeks got a job painting Furniture in a Hotel basement in exchange for a room, with a bath room & tub at the end of the hall shared by all on the floor I was on. One of life's experiences I would just as soon not go through again.

Honestly,
I have felt homeless countless times.I always like the strange looks when you go into a place more then once a day.I especially like Wal-mart(did you know that they will take back stuff without a box or reciept?)Yep nothing seems more like home then Wal-mart.I enjoy kicking open the back doors on a crisp summer day and hop out the back and breath in the fresh air.I then can do my daily shopping and walk around Wal-mart for hours on end basking in the air conditioning. You never can tell who you will meet in the store, alot of ppl to talk to.

We should start a homeless club here...you can only join if the only bill you have is what you eat.

Heck I am homeless no joke. Mine burnt down a few years back and since i dont go home often i never saw a need to have a house payment. So if anyone wants to buy some land in Arkansas just let me know.

I'd be willing to bet that my ex tells everyone that I'm a homeless truck driver, so they'll tell him how much better off he is without me, uh huh. :D
