Happy Labor Day......Union Loafers

Our great leader said today;

"It was labor that helped build the largest middle class in history. So, even if you're not a union member, every American owes something to America's labor movement,"

Well they didn't. The unions didn't do it, most of them came to the party after the fact that the middle class was established.

Mr. Obama, labor needs to thank people like Ford, Durant, Sloan, Dodge, Joy and others who put their lives into building the businesses that actually built the midldle class, that the unions have ruined now. These leaders of industry who you hold in contempt were the real reason why we the people had jobs, the unions didn't create the jobs, they didn't even help keep jobs we have remaining but stood in the way of keeping America strong.

He also said;

"They had to be fought for, by men and women of courage and conviction, from the factory floors of the Industrial Revolution to the shopping aisles of today's superstores. They stood up and spoke out to demand a fair shake, an honest day's pay for an honest day's work," he said. "Many risked their lives. Some gave their lives. Some made it a cause of their lives — like Ted Kennedy, who we remember today."

Sorry Mr. Obama, labor is our downfall. There is no longer a thing of pride but of greed. I also didn't know that there was a redefining of history, our industrial revolution wasn't hindered by the union, it flourished without it.

Mr. Obama I can't celbrate a holiday that was built on the backs of people like me. I can't go and barter for a job, I can't be competitive looking for work because the unions took that away.

America owes nothing to the unions at this point.

Greg, you know as well as I do that it is the "job" of those on the "left" to re-write history. Lying and "fiction" are their only hope. Their "true" message is weak and flawed. The entire idea that the "left" goes on is against human nature. Mankind is at it's best when they are allowed to "strive" towards a goal and reap the rewards if they attain that goal.

I come from a coal mining family and am well aware of the abuses that went on in those days. I am afraid it has come around to much to the other way these days. I was at a union shop in Windsor Canada a few weeks ago. A temp assured load. We put the product on my truck. The union guy forgot to raise the dock plate so I could pull out, close the doors and fire up the reefer to get the product to a safe temp. I was NOT allowed to raise that plate, the uniion guy was on break and the supervisor was NOT allowed to raise that plate since it was a "Union" job. SO, for the better part of 20 minutes that temp sensitive freight just kept getting warmer and warmer. NOT GOOD!! Unions should NOT be there to cause damage to the company products that PAY THEIR wages. We need more balance and a bit of common sense.

Unions have been given too much power by the employer...blame the Big 3 for that one.....can't tell who the boss is without the name tag...
Use to be a time putting a union logo on company equipment was a firing offense...now you see it everywhere....
Unions are a necessary counterweight against some STILL tyrant companies....companies still aren't all that nice when it comes to employee relations...

The company store thing and all of that is a different situation and rightfully so that there is some protection of the workers. The same goes for Police and firemen, they don't have the protection and the unions provide it and I stand behind them BUT....

That's it.

Henry Ford did more for the middle class than the UAW ever did. Although his workers worked, they were also provided a lot of things based on something they called Fordism. The UAW and histroy has been revised to show otherwise, to show the 'struggle' of company against man and to show how man has triumphed against evil. It is all twisted history that is based on a false premise that the worker deserves, they don't deserve anything.

As OVM mentioned, once there wasn't a UAW sticker on any machine when you went into the plants. Once there were people proud of their products and company, but now I find it difficult to understand how someone can stand in line with me and wear a UAW jacket with no mention of what company they work for. They are proud of the union?

I look at the strike happening right now at Oakland University, tenured professors are striking because they don't want other teachers to threaten their jobs, so they screw with the students and prevent them from getting the education they paid for. It is not the right of the professor to strike if OU is a public university and the university should hand those classes to the students as free classes because they breached a contract by not providing the services the students paid for.

Unions have long outlived their usefulness...now they're just a burden to society and the economy AND to the employee!

The union is not all bad. I grew up in a union home. My dad is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. For instance when I was overseas the people at the union hall sent my whole platoon a big box of goodies. Why? Because I was one of their brother's sons. When I got injured the people at the union hall did a dinner to raise money while I was in Germany trying to get well enough to come back to the States so my mom could be with me in California for about a month during my rehab. This was before all the Post 9/11 programs they have now and people were helping people. Dad has paid into union dues but we've gotten back quite a bit to. We've always bought vehicles through the credit union that we're repoed and got good deals on them. Anytime dad has been laid off there has always been jobs posted at the hall. If a man wants to work they can keep you in a job. You might have to travel to it, but your bills will get paid and your family will be fed and clothed. All the years dad has worked with the union he's worked. I know my dad isn't lazy union or no union.

On the flip side of the coin they were things dad didn't like about the union. Various rules and regs they made the workers adhere to. They actually worked under a no strike clause which dad kinda liked, but it meant if the guys ever decided to strike they were fired off the job. There were alot of tense times around the house when dad was having to go to meetings at night and try to be the voice of reason because a few people wanted to strike. We always hoped and prayed it would turn out alright and it always did.

This is no offense to no one, but it seems the worst unions are those in factories, and they get even worse the farther north you get. There are exceptions to that as there is to anything in life. IMO, Michigan had a good thing going for themselves years ago, but they put themselves out of a job. I think the union helped them do it. That's just my observation. The skilled trades people like the electricians and the plumbers seem to be a different ball game. I have family in the plumbers union. A cousin just got laid off about a month ago, but he's still working because he went to Texas to work until the work picks back up in Arkansas.
