Hand of Egypt's military rulers grows heavier - Yahoo! News

CAIRO (AP) — Growing in confidence after eight months in power, Egypt's military generals appear more determined than ever to crush the protest movement that ousted Hosni Mubarak and has turned critical of their rule.

This week, they detained Alaa Abdel-Fattah, a blogger whose activism made him an icon of the anti-Mubarak uprising, and — in an accusation that was derided by fellow activists — said he was to blame for stirring up violence at an October protest where 27 people were killed when soldiers cracked down.

At the same time, the military leadership has been drumming up an image of itself as the nation's foremost patriots, even as it steps up moves to silence critics, leaning on managers of media outlets to tone down commentary on the army or ban particularly vocal critics from appearing on political talk shows.

Only fools believed that all this mess in the Middle East was a "movement of the people". All they did was get rid of one bum and put in a worse one. what's new? The mass murders, purges and blood baths will soon start.

The treatment of the Coptic Christians could be a sign of things to come. However, it should come as no surprise that a majority muslim country adopts a legal structure based on sharia law. Keep in mind that the muslim brotherhood is well established there, and their influence will be evident in the elections to be held in the not-so-distant future.

So please do expand on your thoughts above ....

If it's genus was not as a movement of the people, then what precipitated it ?

All they did was get rid of one bum and put in a worse one. what's new?
Who got rid of one bum ?

The people ?

That was the bum that our government supported and enabled in his tyrannical and cruel oppression of his people.

BTW - How's that "spreading democracy" and "light of the free world" thing workin' out for ya ?

The mass murders, purges and blood baths will soon start.
Well, that shouldn't be a real big surprise ..... I mean, afterall .... we are already employing them as torturers-for-hire ....

The riots and demonstrations were about the price of food. The people were despondent because over half of their salaries went towards food. Mubarak had little to do with the shortage, as other Arab countries felt the hunger pangs as well. But these leaders definitely ate well... as do the generals in Egypt.

Isn't there more to this story than just wanton killing?

Also it seems to be odd, about 1700 years ago, it was Christians who pillaged Egypt after another coup, killing a lot of people in the process.

All the people involved 1700 years ago are dead. It is now THESE people who are responsible for THEIR actions. THEY are now the murderers. It will continue. Religion is the excuse to wield power over others. Not to worry, they will kill their own as well. It is their way.

I got it, Obama could use one of his extra birth certificates from Egypt and run for President there too, of course this statement will need more depth and study IMHO>
