ST. LOUIS — A man who was accused of breaking into trailers at a St. Louis trucking company is dead after being beaten by employees who caught him.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (Employees beat alleged thief at trucking company : News) says homicide detectives were called at 7:35 a.m. Sunday to Central Transport International, which hauls freight across the country.
Company employees told police they caught a man breaking into trailers, and a struggle ensued after he told them he was armed with a gun.
Police say three or four workers were able to subdue the man until officers arrived. No weapon was recovered.
The man was taken unresponsive to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
