My ProHeat unit is not working properly, AGIAN!! It is icing up when I use the AC, AGAIN!! If I take it to a shop I will get one of the same 4 answers, problem #1: not enough freon, problem #2: too much freon, problem #3: not enough ventilation, or problem #4: all of the above. The unit seldom works for more than 3-4 months without something going wrong and that is not counting all the belts that break. NO Carrier repair place has been able to make this thing work for more than a month or two. Anyone with any insight as to what I can do with this thing? Anyone want to steal it off of my truck? Layoutshooter

My Comfort pro use to ice up when it was low on freon. I have the 5000 series it's probably the same as your proheat. They have a new hose replacement kit that solves the loss of freon problem. the original hoses leak untraceable amounts of freon until the level gets low enough to cause the HVAC unit to ice up. The dealer I bought the unit from got Carrier to replace the original hoses with the upgraded ones at no cost to me. Carrier knows of this problem with the hoses but will not warranty it even if the unit is under warranty.

Another cause could be a bad compressor, if you run the unit with low freon it can damage the compressor.

Yea, we have quit running it since the first ice up. There was a new compressor put in about a year ago. I will look into the hose thing. I can say one thing, I won't own another one of these overpriced anchors. It was on the truck when I bought it or it would not be there. Layoutshooter
