Great Song Lyrics

LetzRocks-EO Members songs thread gave me an idea.

Lets hear members favorite song lyrics:

Here is a couple of mine:

The beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, so I had 1 more for dessert-Johnny Cash-Sunday Morning coming down

One day I looked into my rear view mirror
And a-comin' up from behind
There was a Georgia State policeman
And a hundred dollar fine
Well he looked me in the eye as he was writin' me up
And said, "Driver, you've been flyin'!"
"And ninety five was the route you were on, it was not the speed limit sign.-Jim Croce-Speedball Tuckers last verse

here's the complete song:

I drive a broke down rig on "may-pop" tires
Forty foot of overload
A lot of people say that I'm crazy
Because I don't know how to take it slow
I got a broomstick on the throttle
I got her opened up and head right down
Nonstop back to Dallas
Poppin' them West Coast turn-arounds

Chorus:
And they call me Speedball
Speedball Tucker
Terror of the highways
And all them other truckers
Will tell you that the boy is mad
To be drivin' in a rig like that

You know the rain may blow
The snow may snow
And the turnpikes they may freeze
But they don't bother ol' Speedball
He goin' any **** way he please
He got a broomstick on the throttle
To keep his throttle foot a-dancin' round
With a cupful of coal black coffee
And a pocketful of West Coast turn-arounds

(Chorus)

One day I looked into my rear view mirror
And a-comin' up from behind
There was a Georgia State policeman
And a hundred dollar fine
Well he looked me in the eye as he was writin' me up
And said, "Driver, you've been flyin'!"
"And ninety five was the route you were on, it was not the speed limit sign."

Broker would hate him too:D

I like to apply the word "GREAT" to a slightly different degree of lyric. Something that would inspire. Like below.

To dream ... the impossible dream ...
To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...
To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...
To run ... where the brave dare not go ...
To right ... the unrightable wrong ...
To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...
To try ... when your arms are too weary ...
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

This is my quest, to follow that star ...
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...
To fight for the right, without question or pause ...
To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm,
when I'm laid to my rest ...
And the world will be better for this:
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

Imagine if it really happened, truckers carrying some little boy into their cabs for a ride, while his moms at work.

Wow! Great choice. I love that song. My favorite is the Robert Goulet' version.

As is mine, Rocket. That was our "Class Song" when we graduated from high school and one of a few songs that I base many of my lifes dreams, goals and beliefs on. Layoutshooter

My favorite song of all time..

My Back Pages

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin' high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Girls' faces formed the forward path
From phony jealousy
To memorizing politics
Of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists
Unthought of, though, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

A self-ordained professor's tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
"Equality," I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Great song Layout! What do you think of this one?

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Climb every mountain,
Search high and low,
Follow every highway,
Every path you know.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
'Till you find your dream.

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life,
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream.

Its Hard to Kiss The Lips at Night That Chew Your *** Out All Day Long. By the Notorious Cherry Bombs, (Vince Gill And Rodney Crowell)

She used to call me baby
I thought she was such a lady
But my, how things have changed
Since times moved on.

I gave her my last dollar
And now all she'll do is holler
Oh, my life has become
A country song .

I've learned she can resist me
By the way she always disses me
And comes to bed at night
With that cold cream on.

Sometimes I might feel frisky
But these days it's just too risky.

Chorus:
It's hard to kiss the lips at night,
That chew your *** out all day long.
All day long
It goes on and on.

Did you ever climb that mountain at Cabella's?
Also, be careful with those rainbows....

I do not have the voice for that kind of music, I wish I did. My son does. Those lyrics, in my opinion are just so simple, inspiring and magnificent. That is how a man should live his life. Anything less is failure. Layoutshooter

I sorta figured that Doug, but thought it needed answered. NOTHING the Beatles wrote was what I would call GREAT!! They did a few good things but for the most part I did not like them. As to John Lennon, not a man I would hold up to my sons as an example. Layoutshooter

It's from a Tragically Hip song called Terrarium

"sometimes an accident is the only way to work ourselves back to bad decisions"

True.
