I took my wife and father out fishing today. The fishing was only so so, but we had a great time. I took them out onto Lake Erie to see the "Detroit Light", which was completed in 1885 and still operates today. I wanted them to see it while it is still there. The Coast Guard is not doing much to maintain it and it is starting to show it's age.
The "Lake" was behaving today. Wave less than two feet. Winds were out of the SW about 5. Of course NOAA was reporting NE at 5. At least they had the speed right this time.
I ran them "Up River" to see the sights. Twin points is still there, a place where I spent HOURS of my misspent youth. The "Pagoda House" is still there but it looks a little worn as well. 9http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grosse_Ile_Township,_Michigan
Most of the marshes from my youth are still underwater as the high water that started in the late 1960's continues. I talked to the owner of the Swan Yacht Basin, in Newport, he was telling me that the water in his basin in 18' higher than last year.
The celery beds on the "River" and Lake Erie are looking very good this year, best I have seen for more than 20 years. I wonder if the cold winter and much cooler water temps this year have anything to do with that?
It was a wonderful day on the water.
