An unlikely sight has appeared off the the coast of Miami.

A grand piano, which weighs at least 300kg (650lb), now sits on a sandbank in the middle of the Biscayne Bay.

Exactly how and why the piano came to be there remains a mystery.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say as long as the instrument isn't a navigational hazard, they won't remove it.

Local residents have been giving their thoughts on the new water feature

The piano was placed there by husband and wife filmmakers, Billy and Anais Yeager, while filming the third part of their Jesus of Malibu trilogy.

Their concerted Miami effort occurred, naturally, in the dead of night. They towed the "neglected" piano, from a friend's estate, on a homemade barge behind a slow boat: It took six hours. Yeager said he and his wife used rollers to maneuver the instrument onto the sandbar before filming early in the morning about three weeks ago.

They have pianos in Malibu, Death Valley, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and now Miami.

Depending on where the pianos are placed, the message is either positive or negative. When they left one in Guatemala, it was positive. But Miami? It gets a negative. "I was raised in Miami and know about the vanity there", said Billy Yeager. "There's nothing enlightening. There's nothing about truth. It's all about vanity. So it's not a happy story. It's a protest."

Yeager wasn't going to say anything publicly about the piano, until it became rumored that the piano was left behind after filming a music video. "I said I'm not going to let that slide. This is highly symbolic and profound," Yeager said.

"Our film is about uncovering the lies of the world. It's about the power of music, film, and vibration and how it affects the pineal gland and mind control. After we film, we leave the pianos, because it's a political statement. It's an artistic revolution against the media, the corruption of arts, and the control and slavedom of people."

[I'll bet the Yeagers wear ionic bracelets, too.]

Yeager also said that their movement, called the JOM Revolution, has gone global. "Right now, we have people in Berlin and Paris that are leaving instruments -- painted -- in the middle of streets or chaining them to parking meters. In Australia, a guy is creating sculptures out of broken guitars."

The trilogy follows Jesus and Mindy, played by the Yeagers, on a truth-seeking journey. They've been following a "sacred geometric energy grid" across North America, where Route 66 is a particularly potent stream.

[If they had used Mork instead of Jesus, they would know that Route 66 doesn't go anywhere near Miami.]

You know they did!! They needed that "balance" as they were making their "political statement"...As for the Rt66 thing...Now I know why whenever I close to any part pf Rt66 I am 'drawn' to drive as far as I can on the old road....

But back to the piano on the sandbar...I was thinkin Billy Joel let it tere...kinds gives a new meaning to the term..."piano bar"......"Thank you, Thank you berry mush...."

Those people need to get a life. If I was Florida Fish and Game I would fine them and have them remove it. How stupid.

If that thing gets busted up in a storm something or someone is going to be messed up by those strings. Art is not dumping. Fine who ever did it and make them get it out.

Teen says he put grand piano in Miami bay

My Way News - Teen says he put grand piano in Miami bay

(AP) - A 16-year-old looking to boost his art school application took a bow Thursday for being the one behind the grand piano that mysteriously showed up on a sandbar in Miami's Biscayne Bay.

Nicholas Harrington said he wanted to leave his artistic mark on Miami's seascape as the artist Christo did in the early 1980s when he draped 11 small islands in Biscayne Bay with hot pink fabric. And if it helped the high school junior get into Manhattan's Cooper Union college, that would be OK too.

"I wanted to create a whimsical, surreal experience. It's out of the every day for the boater," Harrington told The Associated Press.

"I don't like it be considered as a prank," he said. "It's more of a movement."

On Jan. 2, Harrington, his older brother Andrew and two neighbors lifted the instrument, which had been trashed during a holiday party, onto the family's 22-foot boat and took it out on Biscayne Bay. There, they left it on the highest spot along a sandbar.

Harrington is the son of "Burn Notice" production designer J. Mark Harrington. The piano is an old movie prop that sat for four years in Harrington's grandmother's garage. The teen had talked about hoisting the instrument from a tree or using it in a music video, among other projects, his mother said, but nothing happened until the winter break from school.

The teen said he grew up in a family that appreciated art and architecture, and he had his parents' support for his scheme.

"The weirdness of it all just comes easily," he said.

The piano sat undisturbed in the bay until last week, when Suzanne Beard, a local resident, took her boat over to the sandbar to take a look. Her picture of pelicans roosting on the instrument ended up on the National Geographic website. From there, the story went viral, much to Harrington's surprise.

"We pretty much forgot about it until it became super popular," the teen said.

He said he had planned to remain anonymous - except for including photos of the installation in his college application - until others began claiming responsibility.

"I think it was much more powerful as a mystery," said the teen's mother, Annabel Harrington. "It put Miami on the map in a good way."

It's not clear what will happen to the piano. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission isn't responsible for moving such items and the U.S. Coast Guard won't get involved unless it becomes a hazard to navigation.

Harrington and his mother said they are prepared to retrieve the piano.

"It's just another adventure," the teen said.
