Don`t know if they will still let your truck get this close. We parked within 100ft of the rim.

Yes thats a UD Cab over "C" Unit W/48" Coffin sleeper. Can`t believe we endured that for 3 years.

Pics not showing up, and I wanted to see it! I've been looking for a pic of one of those old cabovers w/sleeper! Mine just had extended cab :(

If you can't get it to post, send it to me via the email link, and I'll post it for ya!

That's cool, can you imagine how upset newbies would get now to be put in something like that..LOL.. Those UD's and Mitsubishi trucks turned on a dime tho!

Thanks for the history!

My old truck is still in service at 20 years old. Last I heard a guy was running a mail contract with it!

We laugh when we look back at that period, but you know with expenses about a third less,we really made money. Our accountant about passed out when we were faced with our tax bill for the first year.(We passed out first)

Life in a rig was only possible because Roberts had a scheme for reinbursing Hotel bills. This was called "Availability". Basically we would receive $45 for nights spent in a Hotel,if we met their terms.
I.E. Arrive in Express Center before 10 AM and be available until 6PM.
Invariably Dispatch would call just as you began to snuggle down.

Augh, those were the bad old days.

I parked my "D" unit in that lot where arizona 64 runs into the canyon edge then heads east. It was in the fall of 2002. The lady in the park toll both said "go right on up and park by the buses". we were about 300' from the edge. But when we got back to the truck, there were several park rangers writing down my company and plate #'s. They were'nt too happy, but hey, i was just doing what i was told.
