We can expect far more of this sort of thing as Obama care takes is strangle hold on our Nation. More fraud. More waste. Higher costs. Lower quality health care.

U.S. says 91 charged over $295 million in Medicare fraud

MIAMI (Reuters) - U.S. authorities said on Wednesday they had charged 91 people, including doctors and nurses, for their alleged participation in Medicare fraud involving approximately $295 million in false billing.

Attorney General Eric Holder, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and FBI Executive Assistant Director Shawn Henry announced the charges in Washington, saying they resulted from coordinated operations in eight U.S. cities carried out by the Medicare Fraud Strike Force.

"From Brooklyn to Miami to Los Angeles, the defendants allegedly treated the Medicare program like a personal piggy bank," the head of the Justice Department's criminal division, Lanny Breuer, told reporters in Washington.

The anti-fraud sweep over the last two weeks involved some 400 law enforcement agents from the FBI, HHS-Office of the Inspector General, multiple Medicaid Fraud Control Units, and other state and local law enforcement agencies.

Officials said the operations took place in Miami, Houston, Baton Rouge, Los Angeles, Detroit, Dallas, New York and Chicago.
Around half of the defendants were charged in Miami, the southeastern city widely viewed by law enforcement experts as the healthcare fraud capital of the United States.

The Miami defendants alone were accused of participation in fraud schemes involving a total of nearly $160 million in false billings for home and mental health services, occupational and physical therapy, HIV infusion, and other services.

"South Florida remains ground zero for healthcare fraud," John V. Gillies, FBI Special Agent in Charge, told reporters in Miami.
According to court documents, the defendants allegedly participated in schemes to submit claims to Medicare for treatments that were medically unnecessary and often never provided.

Solution - end the program.

No more way to waste money because there is no more need to spend it.

You will have to end Obama Care as well. That monster will make Medicare and Medicaid look like creampuffs. Obama Care is there for ONLY two reasons, control of the People and enrichment of those who run it.

The biggest yet most overlooked catalyst of healthcare inflation has been this third party(insurance) system we have. Rather than health insurance, services need to be purchased direct by consumers who would in turn dictate market rates.

There's no reason why hospitals should be getting away with charging $10 for a pill. The reason there's no push back is consumers have no skin in the game with respect to costs.

As for government funded helth care, the VA is the only such program that has any business excisting. VA care is an earned benefit. Medicaid is nothing more than a hand out.

I have long called for the elimination of health insurance. It is a major player in running up costs.

Short of that, since it is NEVER going to happen, I did like the high deductible policies tied to a Health Savings Account. They kept premiums down, provided tax relief and gave us far greater control over our health care and the cost. Of course Obama lied. He stated in his BS about Obama care that IF we had plans we liked we could keep them. Not true, those plans will be phased out. The reason for that? They allowed for far too much control of the People.

How can some people realistically expect other people to shoulder the cost of their health care costs especially when ones own health management or lack of, is in question...

I am a smoker and overweight...and I expect the government via taxpayers to fix me when I get sick....

next time I need medical attention..I'll just go around and ask all the members for 10 bucks and we'll cut out the middleman(government)

Well seeing that neither of you worked in the industry, I wonder if you know what really is the problem?

1 - the third party system works when the patient is involved with their health care payments. When that patient is on the hook for the money by having the insurance company pay them instead of the provider, there seems to be more of an effort to keep the costs down.

2 - the third party system would be better if the insurance company insists on preventive care/life style examines to lessen needed care in the long term.

3 - the medicare/medicaid system has more to do with the cost of medical care in the country than either unpaid services and third party payer system.

4 - the liability involved with medical care has increased 500% in the past 20 years and the need for limitations on malpractice and frivolous lawsuits are obvious while ignored.

Now with that said, Obama care is not the issue, Medicare is and if anyone has an idea of why that program is in trouble, then they would agree with me that ending it would solve the problems.

As for the VA, NOPE it is not justified in its present form, and needs to be split up between long term retiree care and combat related care - with the former handed off to be administered by a third party.

I have an HSA account and a high deductible plan and together it's a much better, more efficient means of coverage than the BS plan that Obama and his minions are pushing.

Yeah and your an old fuddy duddy too! Far too many people have that sense of entitlement. They feel that they are OWED.

I am not saying that we have no problems, of course we do. I just don't believe for one second that the government has ANY chance of fixing it. They are a big part of the problems we already have. I also do not believe that they are just "looking out" for people. I don't trust them. They have a very poor track record with money. They also have a long history of taking away freedoms.

LOL!! Well, I am BROKE so if ANYONE is waiting for ME to cover THEIR health care they better have their funeral arrangements in order!! Besides I did NOT vote for the Idiot in Chief and the ONLY thing I would support regarding Obama would be his early departure from office. Last week would be soon enough!

I'm a fan of smokers' rights, provided they sign a disclaimer that they're soley responsible for any/all healthcare costs.

Same thing with those clown bikers who want to ride around without a helmet. I'm all for repealing the helmet law as long as medicaid is repealed for those in need of it because of stupidity.

See there ya go....you are not responsible my my life management in way shape or form....why does the government feel they should make any of you pay for my care?

BUT as I said in the other thread...they have a system and programs, well, that are lets say lax for a better word....and I'll take full advantage of them till they make the necessary changes....
