Ive seen people suffering from gout and the key is lowering Uric acid. Im not a huge fan of medication so if it works and it dosent harm you then its worth a try.

I used to suffer from gout in my big toe and was given my remedy by an old country Doctor.
At the grocery store buy 1 can of unsweetened cherries.
Eat the whole can full, fresh out of the can, and drink all the juice. It tastes horrible.
3 days later my gout would be gone.

Reducing gout flares is not a cure. Gout can only be controlled by reducing uric acid. There is also chronic gout. No flares but continuous joint damage. Been dealing with this for 25 years. Both big toes, both knees and the chronic version. LOTS of fun.

As the good Doctor said to me, "Try the cherries". It's only $2. What have you got to lose?
When you first feel the symptoms eat the can of cherries and the pain should go away.

As I said. Reducing an attack of gout is NOT a cure. No pain is NOT always proof of no gout. I have chronic gout. NO PAIN, LOTS of damage. I also still get flair ups. Gout is cause by HIGH uric acid. The ONLY way to prevent symptoms is to get uric acid levels down. Cherries cannot 'cure' gout. There is no cure. It is a function of uric acid crystallizing in your joints when you get a build up. Try looking at those crystals in a microscope and you will see WHY they cause the damage.

Lest we forget, you can get 'gout' of the kidney. Uric acid crystal 'kidney stones'.
