I listened to EO on XM and was glad I did ....I found myself talking to the radio a few times during replies by the the FXCC rep. ..But being courtious to Lawrence, and Terry I refrained from calling in to ask him a question...and out of respect for what Open Road was attempting to do, mainly educate folks about expediting...
I felt that some of the callers ,inquiring about switching to expediting as a career move, needed to get more "rubber-to-the-road" information rather than the general answers that were given. The context of the show prevented this, being as this was an introductary type blog.
As an old Roberts Express contractor, I have always felt that the "Independent Contractor" status stated by the expediting companies is not accurate, and as such, prevents one from operating as profitably as one needs to be these days.
I was keenly listening to the income potentials by vehicle size. They were interesting however expenses were not covered.
I think an outline of what it costs an "independent" contractor each week would have been appropriate and some questions would have been answered also....
Also the gentlemen that called-in with questions on health, 401 and other bene's got the corporate answer...I would like for this to also be expounded upon on a future forum.
And finally, in these days of mega-buck lawsuits, this "contractor" status needs to be explored as to what we are leaving ourselves open to afa accidents, haz mat issues, etc...
Good show, needed to be about 6 days long to cover everything but it was a start...
