GM Fuel Pump

Has anyone replaced a fuel pump on a 2004 or newer GM van? I have an 04 Chevy, 6.0 with the fuel filter integrated into the fuel pump. This past week I noticed a high pitched whining noise coming from what I suspect is the fuel pump, or more correctly the fuel filter causing the pump to work harder. Until today the noise pulsated, now it is constant. I have an appointment Monday with my local mechanic to drop the tank and replace the filter/pump assembly. Assuming it is the pump. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Good call. Just have it replaced. Way more expensive than on the road with a tow bill.
Hoping mine makes it until a nice spring day. I plan on replacing it in the driveway. Just as a preventative measure. I've put 200,000+ miles on that pump plus whatever the precious owner did in the prior 235,000 miles.

Mine is original. 500k.

This one is the original with 732,000 miles. The fuel pump in my 98 only lasted about 185k with a new filter every 30,000 miles. Which was pretty good for that vintage.

As an aside the Promaster has access to the fuel pump/tank from an access door inside the cab.

I dunno you seen that GM recall.....all the way back to 05 or 07 was it.....Last bug is highly suspect...

maybe the same designers that worked on those GM models in the early 2000 years....they seem to have a pump problem for a couple years...

I got my fuel pump replaced today. Parts, labor, shop supplies and tax, $889.54. I'm glad I had it replaced before it failed on the road.

Is that a Ford or Chevy? I've never replaced one but I FEEL like I could handle that job in the driveway and save a few duckies.

Didn't I read that while you have the tank dropped you should cut an access door in the floor to avoid dropping tank for next fuel pump ?

That is only for the earlier 2000 model years. Can't remember what year they fixed that problem but you could only get about 150k of out one. My 2005 GM 3500 cutaway got 425k before first pump was changed and this was done before pump even went bad. Just got a little itchy. I think I paid like $300 for OEM part I purchased over the counter and like $300 for labor.

It's an OEM pump at $541. I put a fuel pump in my 1998 Chevy in 2001 for about $800 but that included a 3 mile tow. This fuel pump has its very own built in fuel filter.
