Glenn Beck is going digital. Make sure you read the Terms of Service very carefully before you sign up. <snort>

My question is, do you think Glenn Beck will have enough of a following to be able to to charge $4.95 and make it a success?

Glenn Beck announces GBTV, a live-streaming video network

By Tim Molloy

With his FOX News show ending this month, Glenn Beck announced the launch of GBTV, a live-streaming video network that will feature his new, daily two-hour show beginning Sept. 12 for $4.95 a month.

Beck is following the example of Oprah Winfrey, who also left her daytime show to start her own network. But Beck is charging for his, and doing it online, in the expectation that his fans are dedicated enough to follow him.

"GBTV is the future," Beck said in a statement. "The confines of traditional media no longer apply. GBTV is about getting active in the community, participating in stories and finding new ways to deliver news, information and entertainment directly to the audience."

Customers who want a full range of programming on the network, including a six-camera simulcast of Glenn's three-hour radio show and "The 4th Hour" starring Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere, can pay $9.95 for GBTV Plus. Subscribers to the full package will also see specials like programming around Beck's planned trip to Israel in August, which he has discussed at length on his FOX News show.

Mercury Radio Arts, Beck's production company, said the network already has 80,000 paying subscribers. Some programming is already available, and the network plans a full launch Sept. 12, the day Beck's show debuts.

The new two-hour show will air beginning at 5 p.m., the same time as Beck's show on FOX News. It will be overseen by Joel Cheatwood, the former FOX News Channel executive who joined Mercury earlier this year. He was appointed president of programming for GBTV.

The new network plans scripted and unscripted content from Mercury and other companies, and has signed a development deal with television producer and bestselling Brad Thor.

Like Winfrey, Beck will try to draw attention to his new show with a behind-the-scenes series while other productions ramp up. Winfrey's initial OWN offerings included a reality show about her final season on daytime TV, and Beck's series is about the making of GBTV.

Beck will discuss GBTV during a live stream Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on glennbeck.com.

It's scary to think of it, but at only five bucks a month he'll probably do very well.

People have made billions by the $5 per customer concept

BUT with that said, I discovered his Beck University, which cost $75 a year ... in contrast to many many many others with better content and less bias studies exist with better credibility, they are all free and many from liberal end of the spectrum.

Of course Hannitty is for sale.

I don't begrudge them for making a buck but you know many of them are repeating the same crap over and over again while the ideas they are espousing are those from others a long time ago AND the really bothersome thing is that much of what is inspiring and new sometimes comes from those who are considered on the fringe, liberal or just have common sense and offer it for free.

I just read my BBC newsletter about Fergie and her revolation that Oprah has been helping her get her life back. Normally I would think that this may be a good thing but Oprah realistically hasn't helped many get their lives together and it seems from how it is all worded, it is another Harpo press release. Maybe Beck will do the same thing ...

Oh I don't begrudge them from making a buck selling what is free or rehashing what some one else said in the past...can't believe there are fools willing to shell out hard earned bucks to do so....and then complain they are broke because of said problems.....must be nice to have extra money in times like this is all...

He'll do fine this this venture. He's been cultivating a niche audience for several years, and they seem to be mostly blind followers. When I see this development it reminds me of the "700 Club" and Pat Robertson's audience. They'll pay the $5 and be happy as pigs in mud. Beck takes his end-of-days rantings straight to the bank - it's a win/win situation. Now all of his critics who seem to have been forced to watch him on Fox can blissfully ignore his broadcasts - assuming they don't suffer withdrawal symptoms.

Success is getting up, and staying up, just one more time than you fall. In my case, that is defined by having been sober 24.5 years(12/07/86), after a "career" of getting drunk at just the wrong time.

In my relatively short expediting career(6 yrears), I mostly defined succes as keeping the bills paid, banking some profit, and most of all being happy.

Did you meet YOUR goals?

Define success.
Having as many more people still subscribed and watching the show after one year, and having enough people still subscribed at that time to pay for the show and have it profitable.

Watching him on Fox television is largely a passive activity, doesn't require much effort. Watching him online is active and requires some effort, especially for the couch potatoes at home. There will be an initial swamp of subscriptions, but after a matter of weeks that will wane huge, I think, especially now that mobile carriers are moving to eliminate the unlimited data plans.

I have been a Glenn Beck listener and fan since September 11th 2001. I've attened three Rally's for America, bought most of his books etc etc.
But, he is getting WAY out there and I don't listen everyday anymore....Might as well be listening to George Noory talking about aliens.

He will make money off of this venture, but he will not be the influential voice he is at Fox. His viewership will drop off considerably and I think he will be forgotten for the most part after about a year, to a year and a half.

He is getting into so many different money making schemes that they will pay for any short-comings his channel might have. I can't see the channel being around for more than 2 years if it were solely relying on membership fees.

I would rather spend it on a good Hamburger.

He does have some good points and his staff does good research but his attitude is annoying. To me anyway. But he will save the world, just ask him.

He is not done doing shows for fox, only done doing his daily show.

I am aware that he will be a Fox contributor, what's your point?

My point was in reference to you saying he will not be the influential voice he was at Fox, that he will still have a voice at Fox so he very well could still have that voice. Only the future can tell.

Sorry, but being on the air what....maybe, once a month, for a 3 minute segment, on the "No Spin Zone" is hardly the same as having your own hour long show, 5 days a week.

The guy will fade away and the American people will be better off for it.
