If any of you vanners or sprinter types find yourself near Glen Rock, PA, tonight, stop in and see the Glen Rock Carolers. They have been doing Christmas right since 1848. It is a remarkable bunch. We have many old friends with that bunch.

You have friends in a group that has been singing since 1848? Wow! You are old!

My age is FAR beyond your ability to understand! :p

A trip to see the Glen Rock Carolers SHOULD be on most people's bucket list. It is traditional America at it's best.

This link to the York Dispatch story works. I have NO idea what happened to the Carolers main page.

The man in the center of the picture, Barry (Chet) Wagner, is a man I spent countless hours with on fire crews. We both ran with Glen Rock Hose and Ladder, the Southern York County Forest Fire Crew and the Pennsylvania Specialized Forest Fire Crew.

Not shown in the picture is Ed Baily, who was with the Carolers prior to my moving to Glen Rock in 1982 and still sings with them each year. Ed was in charge of the Glen Rock Ambulance Club, an all volunteer BLS ambulance service, which both Mrs. Layoutshooter and I ran with as EMT's.

Glen Rock has a fine history of volunteer public service and the preservation of tradition. We were proud to be a part of that community for 10 years. We miss it and still keep in touch with friends from back then.
