Have you ever heard of owners paying friends to sign on to a expediting company go through all the steps and then never go on a load. The owner takes the team load and the friend gets 100.00 per load just sitting at home or goes to his 9 to 5 job. When o/o needs
any thing signed etc. logs , medical forms, the friend gets more money for that too!

This was a common practice years ago. Many drivers qualified neighbors or relatives to act as their co driver but ran the whole trip alone. One time there was an accident in Texas where the driver was in a coma and the Texas State Troopers spent about 20 hours looking for the so called co driver. After that incident Roberts cracked down and would always ask to speak to the co driver and wanted personal info from that person, such as birth date, home zip code, etc. This seems to have gone away as the Co Driver is then put on duty to answer the questions. One guy I knew (before caller ID) would call his hiome on a 3 way call, his wife would then call dispatch and both so called drivers could be verififed.
This too me is playing with fire big time,if you had an accident and it was proved that you lied about the co driver not only would you lose your contract, the insurance company might not pay up. I met a guy from Boston once who drove straight thru from Mass to Phoenix. He said he was hallucinating when he got there. He had qualifed his neighbor who was a Russian imigrant, and when dispatch wanted to speak to Borris,he would wait an minute then come back on the phone with a strong Russian accent acting like he was Boris. Also if the DOT stopped you there could be some difficult explaing to do unless you were running several logs. Not worth it in my opinion, you could wind up in big trouble ,if something went wrong..

The o/o I know stll does it . he/ she only
takes 1 long haul a week then books off for 24 hours and then puts the truck back on as a single driver until the weekend ,This is where
the truck becomes a team again! The truck runs petty well all the time
I haven't talk to him this week but the truck is out on a team run.

This has got to be a very dangerous practice. Sounds like a sure way to lose everything you have.

Hi all well the o/o I know makes good living using a gost driver
from that i heard there is a whole network of these drivers from all
over. They tell me one of the reasons they use ghost drivers is because they make enough money to go home every week ! After there
24 hour rest in a hotel or where ever. they take a load in the direction home . These loads are 700 to 800 mile runs enough for one
driver to do but are so called TEAM RUNS . If you think of it most of us arewake16 hours a day any ways I think it more profitable to be
driving than sitting around for a 400 or 500 mile run!

still doesn't sound like a great idea. Your exposure in a wreck would be quite large. I don't think I would want to put my life savings, home, truck ect. on the line for the sake of a longer run.

I was going to sit back and not say a word about this issue but as a driver and out of respect to any carriers that provide work to those of us that sign on to those carriers I can’t sit back and not speak my mind. I can’t believe you would support someone doing something as crazy as this ghost driving thing. If your username is any indication of how long you’ve been around this business then of all people you should be one of the ones condoning this sort of thing, and reporting them to their carrier. Instead you post illegal goings on and indorse it on a public forum. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was you doing this crazy stunt. It’s drivers like this that give the rest of us a bad name. For the sake of this forum I’ll stop there. No sense reading you the riot act and start a word war on this forum. I think I made my point. Although I am glad you are one of those who don’t use the god given brains you were born with and brought this ghost driver thing back to light. Every carrier in this industry having anything to do with expedited freight reads these posts and now knows what they have to do to catch all these illegal law breaking degenerates that call themselves drivers. Thanks old-timer… or is it Alzheimer??? I hope you new drivers out there aren’t as idiotic and as stupid as some are. Don’t even think to do something like this.

If someone is forcing their drivers to do that, then they should go to jail. Absolutely no excuse for that!
