Getting your own load

Here is a question which the more experienced out there can explain and I know a lot of us newbees will be helped. Your sitting in xyz for a day or so - how do you get your own load, where do you look, what is the normal process? I understand that each company has it's own policy about allowing drivers to get their own loads, but if a driver wants to go through those hoops haw does he proceed? Thanks from a newbee.

I dont know what other companies policy are, but if with panther, call the backhaul department and they will tell you everything you need to know including the username and password to get on the broker board website. Remember that backhauls dont pay near the money that expedite loads pay, there is usually no fsc and you have to give up the deadhead. Most companies usually take 10-15% of the gross amount of the load, and with panther there is no comdata download when the load is complete. I use this direction when I am heading into an area where I know there is gonna be a long wait for a load or no freight at all, bu in my opinion, I would rather move for a cheaper rate than sit for 3-4 days waiting on that load thats gonna pay just a little more....

try google.com and type in load boards there are a lot of free one you can watch yourself and post your truck with your cell number attached.then when the broker calls if you think the rate is right just give them panthers number and your unit number then wait for the info to come over qc.

Calling backhaul will never be as fruitful as doing the research yourself. They have x number of trucks to look for loads for..you have you. So that being said.....

Panther has a subscription to www.getloaded.com If you need user name and password talk to the training department or PM me. Try that first. When you are searching make certain you put in truck type...ie van, reefer etc. Also look for LTL loads if you are a straigth truck. If you see anything that looks interesting call the broker and make certain that you can negotiate a rate you are willing to run for and that the freight will fit on your truck. After you have negotiated you deal call Panther backhaul and give them the info to start the paperwork process.

www.internettruckstop.com costs 25$ a month if you have it automatically deducted from your account each month. I find many things on there that are not listed on getloaded.

http://www.landstarbroker.com/ is a free board that can help.

Once you use a broker, do a great job for them and keep their number to call if you need them again. Ask them if they know other brokers that could use your type of service and build a network.

Those are some of the ways we find our own loads. I am sure others have more.
