Getting repairs done out of town

This is just a suggestion. When I know I want service done and am under a load to town ABC I always call in advance.

Thus I either have an appointment or am told come on in (I do this a day in advance). I have noticed I get treated with more respect than the guy who just shows up.

I know we can't schedule breakdowns, but if I can keep running on with a non critical componet that needs repair I will. In the other situation one is stuck.

I just recently had a semi major repiar done, called in advance showed up on my scheduled time, they imm looked at the truck and had a diagnosis complete. I paid to Expd the part in, brought the truck back in the following day at the agreed time of part arrivial and in just over an hour I was on my way.

I even do this with my own local mechanic for PMs, I have wittnessed other drivers being told on location (tommorow). Last month I tried getting into a KW dealer in CT, was told were booked out three weeks, my response was (bull, no one can afford to be down three weeks and I highly doubt that even this facility could book a schedule that tight.) I went to Harrisburg instead. Injector was slowly failing and of course at that time it was working just fine.

I definitely agree, call ahead. Whenever possible, I find a KW dealer because while a little more expensive, I've yet to have a bad experience with one. When my transfer pump started leaking in Madison WI, it was a saturday night. I called immediatley and left a message. I recieved a call Monday morning as soon as they opened. My truck was driven off the street directly into a bay, and work began immediatley. The PM informed me that the nearest transfer pump was 150 miles away in Wausau. They gave me keys to a minivan, directions, and a PO number, and asked that I fill it up on return. I could have waited 24 hours, with no miles ran, paying for a hotel, but they knew I needed minimum downtime, and got me back up ASAP. I've never had a complaint at a KW dealer.

You know this brings up a point I been meaning to ask.

I got a truck stuck in Atlanta, say a FL with a cat (it don't matter what it is, this is an illustration) and the part is in say Ashvill NC. Is it possible to get that part from ashville to atlanta by the company you are contracted with using trucks in transit?

Maybe this is not a good illistration but... its a thought.

Greg,

It hasn't worked for us, Lord knows we have tried.

However once, we had a driver who was on down time at home, go to the FL in Houston to get a condensor for the FL in Harlingen. But once he brought them the part, somehow, the Harlingen FL ended up actually having the part in stock.

Typical highway robbery caught in the act.

I have always received better service at the cummins dealer then at a kw or fl dealer. imho they have more knowledgeable people and better inventory.
