Getting Experience

Hi,

I had the offer of a contract and training with the purchase of a truck. Many folks here on the forum gave good advice to get experience first working for a carrier to see if I liked the work.

Now I am finding it hard to locate companies that hire inexperienced drivers and train them.

I have a CDL class A but I never used it. I have no professional experience. I'd like to drive a class 7 straight truck. Any leeds for hiring on to a fleet that will train a newbie?:(

Try Expediter Services. They advertise on this site.

They only take teams.

I am surprised you are having trouble finding a ride. Not assuming anything but just things to consider. Are you doing something in presenting yourself that might be causing owners to hesitate? Red flags they look for are people wanting home often, people with a bigger list of wont's than wills, negative attitudes. Again not saying this is you but I am amazed how many ads I see in the classifieds here that people state all of the things they will not do or who they will not drive for rather than focusing on positive points. If I was a fleet owner people placing those ads would never even receive a phone call for consideration.

No as a beginner I don't have any limitations or leverage to write my own terms. I just want to get experience. I called Expediter Services as you say they only take teams. I haven't run an ad for work I was trying to find a carrier advertising work. Maybe I need to post something in the free classifieds on this site.

There is one ad from a company west of Canton, Ohio. I called and left a message. No reply as yet.

I'd just like to drive a class 7 straight truck. That's the only item on my wish list.

Post an ad today! When looking for employment it is always smart to take advantage of as many avenues as possible. Being solo will make it tougher to find work if you were willing to team at least for the experience I would imagine work would come much faster.

Be willing to team. Especially if you can find an experienced driver to work with. Think of it as a 6 month learning experience.
Also, don't limit yourself to a Class 7. Alot of the straight trucks out here are Class 8.
