There is a small truck stop near Green Bay that has a timer on the shower, but only one shower, but it runs 10 min. If you cant get cleaned up in 5 minutes, your skylarking,,,lol. Hey, Nancy and Harry will be watching you,,,lmao.

Yet another "story" that doesn't confirm the premise of the headline - somebody needs to quit mimicking those clickbait sites already.
What the story says is the EPA wants to monitor usage of showers in hotels, to see whether some guests waste water to a ridiculous degree, and if so, find a way to modify that irresponsible behavior, if possible. I totally agree that it's a good idea, and understand that those who have little or no civic responsibility would think otherwise.
What I found more troublesome was this report, in the same section:

Union lobbyist who worked one day as a teacher suing Illinois for $30,000 pension | Fox News

Especially the idea of blaming only the unions for the shortcomings of the officials who approved the laws & the loopholes.

Emphasis in the above quote mine. If some still think the left doesn't intrude in personal lives, there goes your proof.

Actions have consequences, and some people don't givadam what the consequences of their behavior are to others, which is the whole reason we need laws and regulations and rules.
We'd all like to keep them to a minimum, which is why the EPA wants to take a looksee at whether it's a problem that can be resolved by nudging the irresponsible. They haven't actually even looked yet, but that's a problem for you?

Nobody needs to monitor if I am wasting anything. My social responsibility is to make sure I don't stink... and that only depends on if I can stand myself. Government and everyone else needs to stay out of my business. Any and All ofit..

aka get out of that shower, NOW.

If it comes to that, sure. Just like it took the Feds to make some stop dumping toxic chemicals in the rivers, or strip mining & clear cutting entire states, for their own benefit. Because some people are just too self centered to care about anyone else. So what if California runs out of water in a year, if you don't live there?

California will not run out of water. Southern California, which never had any water in the first place and has had to steal it from the Colorado River and the mountains of northern California, they might. But me taking a long shower in a Nashville hotel won't have any effect on that.

In certain areas there are concerns about the amount of water. They should concentrate their efforts there instead and be less intrusive.
Article:
The sad part of this discovery is that water conservation is actually a problem in some areas and it’s one which the EPA (were it properly run and focused) might be able to help with. Fresh water supplies are strained in a number of areas where population has outpaced reserves, with southern California being a prime example. The agency could provide guidance – not regulations – to states, with scientific and engineering data designed to help them be more efficient. Rather than trying to influence the shower behavior of tourists, it’s not difficult to imagine water recycling and retention technology which could be phased into the building codes, making cities more efficient in their usage.
Any approach such as I just described would be more palatable – or at least possible – than behavior modification.
Having solved all other problems, the EPA will monitor how long you spend in the shower « Hot Air

Not a believer in the 'butterfly effect', huh? ;)
Seriously: paying more attention to how much water we use is like recycling: it's something we need a nudge to do, [most of us] because it's easier not to. Anyhow, all they're doing is trying to find out how much of an issue it is - nobody's calling for "Navy showers" just yet.

Actually I am. I'm an avid student and ascriber to chaos theory, and understand it rather well. For example, everything that California had done this far with regards to water redirection has had not only a direct effect on the Great Plains but indirectly on the entire planet.

It's really not so much a case of paying attention to how much water we use as it is a case of playing attention to how much water we transport and use in places where water is not naturally found. It's a case of using water in a sustainable manner, rather than stupidly wasting it. The fact is, every drop of water that's ever been on this planet is still here.

Exactly! No need to commission a study. Of course some people take longer showers than others. Some people drink more water than others. Some flush the toilet more...

For me, the more restricted the flow of water from the shower head, the longer I shower. Total water usage per shower; restricted vs. less restricted is probably a wash.

This time, I clicked on the link within the linked article, which explains that the water measurement device is a wireless contraption designed by students, and that the free market, not the government, will decide if it is a good idea. Hotels can choose to use it or not, and guests can check their usage or not.
It's about paying attention to whether we "stupidly waste" water, because in a hotel, it seems to be unlimited, like electricity. And I know I'm not nearly as anal about turning off lights in a hotel room as I am when I'm paying the electric bill...

How about if Big Brother wants to install cameras in the showers to see who is wasting water? Is that OK with you?

I live near Chicago, here we get lake water. It is metered, and I understand there are restrictions on lawn watering and so on... but showers? Nope. Besides, as Turtle pointed out, it makes no difference how long a shower I take here, it won't help or hurt California even a little bit. Southern California is desert country-- always has been. Modern irrigation is the only thing making the place livable. Northern California is dependent on Pacific weather for rain--- nothing I do here in the Western 'Burbs of Chicago can affect weather there.
