Generators, high-end vs. Knock off

I'm resigned to getting a generator on a swing arm. I'm not crazy about the noise, the added weight, the maintenance, the possibility of theft, adding length to the van, etc. but maybe that's really the best solution, combined with a roof top AC. I see the Hondasare $1200+ and some knock offs are about 1/3 of that.

Anybody run the knock offs? I'd appreciate some opinions.

My experience with a knock off generator wasn't that great. Didn't use it much, but shortly after the warranty expired the inverter went out. Pretty easy to change out but I wasn't able to buy one anywhere. Ended up throwing it out and buying a Yamaha. Still works to this day, more than 10 years later.

On the opposite side, I have a friend that only uses knock offs. He swears by them, and when one stops working just goes and buys a new one. He says it is worth it to him.
