Gasoline engine owners/operators, when breaking in a new engine at what mileage do you do your first oil change? What mileage for subsequent changes? If you switched to synthetic at what mileage did you switch? What is your interval with synthetic? If you run a GM 6.0 engine please note that as that's the engine I'm most curious about.

I'm running a 2006 Chevy 1 ton extended van with a 6 liter, I change the oil when the service engine light comes on {at about 7000 miles} I use Penzoil High Mileage oil with a quart of Lucas. The truck has 336000 miles. :)

I'd go by what the owners manual says. I usually go by the severe maintenance schedule(that's just me). And if the vehicle didn't run synthetic from the factory and you want to run it the 1st oil change is fine.
I think nowadays the engine tolerances are so close that break in's are a thing of the past.

I changed to synthetic, trans and rearend also, before I drove off the lot with mine, I change it at 12-15,000 miles I have the 5.3 with just a tich under 400,000 miles, dosen't leak it or burn it.

I have a 6.0 and run conventional Valvoline. First oil change at about 200 miles. I then change oil every 5000 - 7000 miles. Be sure to clean the drain plug.

Both my Chevys came with Dexcool antifreeze. I had the system flushed and filled with good old green Prestone. 388,000 and I am still running the original water pump.

Tune-up every 100,000 miles; new plugs, wires, serpentine belt and transmission fluid. I have Napa ignition wires that are guaranteed for life. Every tune-up I get new wires for free. I think the heat build up in the cramped engine compartment takes it toll on ignition wires.

Moot, do you do the tune up yourself or take it somewhere that changes the wires every time? Does anyone use somewhere like Jiffy Lube or Mr. Goodwrench quicklube or is everyone doing their own? My local dealer has a 19.95 deal for the oil/filter change and I'm pretty sure that's at most dealers.

I have a local independent mechanic do my tune-ups and other major stuff. I do my own oil changes at about $16 a pop and grease the front end every other oil change ceptin' when its -30 degrees outside and my garage is a balmy -10. Then I skip the grease job.

I never go to those quicky oil change places, 10 min. isn't long enough to get a good drain on the old oil
