Gainful scnenario for Atlanta expediting

Can anyone suggest a gainful scenario for owning a cargo van or a straight truck (advantages, disadvantages) in the Atlanta area? Would I be trying to find loads in the 200-300 mile range to certain "lane" cities to cut down on DH miles or is Atlanta "hot" enough that I would be able to DH home more often than not and still have it make sense. Also, if I had a straight truck, where do most owners park them when home, if home community is not "commercial" friendly. Thanks

I wouldn't call running out and deadheading back expediting. When the route is a-b-a-c-a-d-a-e-a-f-a-c-a-g etc. that's what I'd call hotshotting. Expediting is a-b-c-d-e-f-g-h-i-c-j-k-l-f-a. Even if you are getting a good rate you are only getting 1/2. The other 1/2 is burning up on the d/h back. If you can find a gig that pays at least $3 a mile for 3xx miles and at least 3 runs a week for running a van then it could be a good gig. Otherwise I don't see it.

Difference between Straight Truck or Van = More $. Read some more here.

I have never driven a Van for a living and I do not see many doing it either, and by the posts I see why. Some do, mamy more do not. Read here and you answer your own question.

Actuality you only need about 1.50 per loaded mile to make it work deadheading home after every run. A straight truck would be a better choice then a van as far as loads available, but more expensive to buy and maintain. If you are getting your own authority a van is the easiest and cheapest way to go.

not from experience but from reading here if home is important try the loacl air freight companies. atl is a big hub and there are major af carriesr there. one that comes to mind is eagle global logistics or egl on their boxes. there are a couple posters here on with egl and they do fine. both have sprinters i believe.
