Future Sprinters

I talked to the Sprinter specialist at the local dealer. I was told the maintenance interval has increased to 15k miles for the 2014 and there is talk that the 2015 will have a 20k miles maintenance interval.

I'm told the 2015 will have some sort of crosswind stabilization system to go along with lane keeping and other stability and safety systems.

I'm told in 2015 or 2016 there should be a 3500 SRW model available.

I'm told the mega roof is rumored to be returning.

I'm not positive of any of these things but the young lady, Kristin Bay, has 4 years as a Sprinter specialist and seemed to really know her business.

Most of that is here in the 2014

the 3500 srw is really a 2500 with more leafsprings. How ever that 20' of space behind the seat might make the sprinter a true king 0f expediting!

And thread hijacking aside, there were a number of things she told me that seemed like good upgrades to the Sprinter.

The body flex of something that long would worry me, and let's not forget, it is all about what the tires are rated for that will dictate what it can really haul...

The 3500 is going to have newly designed single wide tires on the rear in order to get the 51" between the wheel wells.

I guess they're finally designing the 3500 for US pallets; in Europe, pallets are 1200 mm x 800 mm, or 47.3" x 31.5", and accessible from all 4 sides.

Also in Europe, the GVW at which you need a CDL to drive a truck is 3500 kg, or 7716 lbs. I would not qualify.

Yes, I forgot to include the 4wd option. She mentioned that also.

Mercedes Benz doesn't have to redesign anything. They have had the single wheel 3500 Sprinter in the European market for a few years now. It uses a standard front wheel, but they use a wider rear wheel for the back axle. The single wider wheel is narrower than the dually wheel setup, but has just as much footprint on the ground. Essentially they put a super single tire on the drive axle and that's how they were able to get more room between the wheel wells.

Getting it here for the US market is just a matter of bureaucratic BS.

So, would it come with 2 different size spare tires and rims?,,,,,

I would imagine that they would use a narrow tire and rim, that have the weight capacity of the heavier-rated tire.

Did the CargoMaxx? Nooooo.......:)

Although as true as you're comment may be, the modification of the rear rim/tire on the cargomax was done by the body upfitter, not Chevrolet who provided the chassis to the upfitter. Sprinter, however, is the sole manufacturer of the whole vehicle, so anything is possible. It really isn't as a stupid question as you may think it is.

If there was a narrower rim and tire available that matches that of the wider rim and tire, weight capacity wise, than why go with the wider rim and tire to begin with?
