We discovered a layover recreation opportunity yesterday that I just have to share. Deadheading from Phoenix to Salt Lake City via U.S. 89, we enjoyed and photographed some of the most spectacular scenery we've seen on the road. Then stopping to use the rest room and buy an ice cream bar, we unexpectedly found ourselves in the middle of the world's best ATV trail site.
We were thrilled to learn of the Paiute ATV trail system - 275 miles long, with over 1000 miles of marked side trails and 1500+ miles of side forest roads and trails - ATV rentals, and a host of hotels and cabin vendors that cater to ATV toruists.
Marysvale, UT is in the center of the trail system and less than 200 miles south of Salt Lake City on U.S. 89. Our new friends Dave and Tish stand ready to rent us everything we need for an ATV ride that will treat us to sights and sounds of Utah that we'd never see from the truck. You can stay every night in hotels with showers if you wish, or camp on the trail. Dave and Tish have a "Mule" ATV available too. It's like a golf cart, only with ATV wheels and power.
Sorry if I'm a little over-enthusiastic about this, but seeing the country is part of why we got into expediting. This delightful discovery is part of the fun!
A Salt Lake City layover is not always good news because freight can be slow there. We can't wait until it happens to us. We'll go out of service and head immediately to Marysvale for a three day mini-vacation on the ATV trails.
Trail information is at http://www.marysvale.org/
Dave and Tish have a web site too: http://www.4x44fun.com/index.htm
