We WERE going to go back in service tomorrow, not any more.

The storm knocked the power out. The power company said we will not be back on line until tomorrow evening at 8PM

We are running a few things at the house off of the truck APU. We have a wood stove for heat upstairs and we bought a kerosene heater for the basement to keep pipes from freezing.

We have a gas stove to cook but no hot water.

What FUN!! :(

OK.... should this be a moment to ponder something bigger than any of us or should we comment on it?

OK I'll take the latter ...

If you have a stove to cook on, then you have hot water.

LOL!! YEAH, I can heat water. I meant that the water heater was not working so no showers.

Fun update!!

The power company is now projecting that our power will not be back on until Thursday at 8PM. We had NOT planned for a week off. This is starting to suck. :( With any luck they got it wrong and they can get it going sooner.

Pull the main fuses, shut the water off and send some air through it and go.

How do you send air through it? Shutting down the fuses would shut down the freezer. It is full. I gotta look into one of those automatic generator dohickeys.

You don't bother them, they don't bother you. I live close to the Edisto River, great hunting just don't sleep on the ground. Lot's of Gators. That's how my dog got his name. He some how knows exactly where their at.:D

I used to live up north of there, between Pickens and Clemson. I lived near 6 mile Mountain, otherwise known as the rattlesnake capitol of South Carolina.

I hunted with a club in the "Low Country" one season. First day it was 98 degrees. We killed 18 rattlers, no deer and I got chiggers. Yeah, GREAT FUN!! :p 3 dogs passed out from the heat too.

You have a truck, so I assume you have an air hose and maybe some water hose. Drain the water tank, open up a couple valves and stick the air hose on one of the faucets.

If the freezer is full, then it is good for at least a few days it not a week in this weather. This morning it was 10 when I got up, we won't have a thaw for a good week or two from what I can see, so got coolers? Stick the stuff in the garage in coolers and there is no problem, right?

In the great 2003 blackout, our fridge and freezer was good in the heat for two days then started to have inside temps rise enough to get it on the generator.

I am dealing with a classic "catch 22" Greg. If you have a working solution I am all ears.

IF I disconnect the truck from the house the sump pump goes down and my basement floods, again. I can do that and the water based back up system cuts in. If I shut the water off the water based sump system does not work, and the basement floods, again. If I let the system run, it gets cold and the pipes freeze the basement flood.

Battery based back up only run for a few hours. They can run longer if the back up is connected to a charger but the electricity is out.

A week without a sump pump will find 3 to 5 feet of water in the basement, if not more.

I don't have a good answer. I am running out of wood too, that I can fix.

Well crap Joe, you didn't mention the sump pump, that put this in the "enjoy the time off" category.

Yeah, I forgot about it because as long as I am here, it will work. When it's working I forget about it. My bad!

I am going out in a bit to work on the truck. I stopped working on the refrigerator when the power went out. I can get all but the trim work done. I don't do trim.
