fuel or mileage

does a d unit have to take actual fuel purchase amt or are we aloud to take the standard mi. ded.. read an article in the newspaper copy of the trucker news and it confused me so i post this ? for an answer. also pls explain the rules that go along w/each deduction. this has been an ongoing debate between my brother inlaw and myself . we will leave it to you to see who is rite

IF YOU drive a straight truck you must take depreication and actual expenses period, the standard mileage is not available to you at all. Yet I have heard of straight drivers taking the standard mileage which really would be better of with.due to the larger decudtion but I would not takeit due to the fact of the being audited and they are looking more closely to the trucking industry where they have been questioning the standard mileage on truck drivers returns.
