i dont know if I can do this, but since i change my everyday fuel stop,my fuel mileage has jumped any where from 1/2 to 3/4 miles per gallon. It doesnt have anything to do with hot fuel either,as its been cold out,and fuel hasnt been hot to touch.I think its the cheap fuel they are selling, also the power of my truck is up,its running up hill easier. If we are permitted to mention names then let me know and i will follow up

Steve, the hot fuel problem is still an issue in cold weather. If they heat the fuel, it will heat the fuel in the tank too and that is expanded fuel. The only way to tell is to take the temp of the fuel while it is going into the tank.

I am wondering if you are doing the fill the tank method or using the on board computer to check fuel mileage?

i use my onboard to check fuel mileage and I check the miles driven divided by number of gallons bought, they come out exactly the same.as far as this hot fuel.if its hot going into the ground, then doesnt the fuel stop get less fuel.does that really have a bareing on what we buy.the biggest problem i see with hot fuel,if the fuel in your tank is to hot,you will loose horse power.
ive been checking my mileage the same way since my 1st electronic motor.i have the read out on my dash, and i chek mile with the gallons, its been the same for years. When the read out on the dash says i used 200 gallons, thats what it will be when i fill up.if the truck stops put devises in to cure the hot fuel,we will be paying fr it at the pump,it will be another case where they have the ability to charge more.

The retailers buy fuel from the wholesalers at temperature compensated rates, then they turn around and sell it to us non-temperature compensated. They pocket the difference.

In Canada where it can get so cold, even in the underground tanks, the oil companies and retailers fought to get fuel sold from temperature compensated pumps. In the States where fuel gets hot, they are fighting against it. Fuel expands when hot, and contracts when cold. A retailer might buy 1000 gallons of temperature compensated fuel, but if it's hot they might get 1100 actual gallons per volume. Both the temperature compensated 1000 gallons, and the non-compensated 1100 gallons, have the same number of BTU's. The 1100 gallons isn't more fuel, it's just the same amount of fuel expanded into a larger volume. The retailer then sells 1100 gallons of fuel for which they paid for 1000 gallons, and they pocket 100 gallons of pure profit.

100 gallons of pure profit, incidentally, is just about what it costs to install temperature compensated pumps.

I'll tell you when I quit using B my fuel mileage improved considerably no matter where else I bought fuel .

Turtle, the oil business has been scewing with the public for years. The heated fuel issue is not going away,so they get 100 gallons per 1000 free.when a device is put on the pump to correct this, who do you think will pay for that?that devise will be paid for in less than a week and our charge will be there for a life time. What i care about is my fuel mileage, the better my mileage the less over all im paying for fuel.when fecc gives me a fsc that is equal to 1.20 or 1.25 /mile,based on 6 mpg,the avg fuel cost is 4.05 /gallon,so my fsc is .475cpm loaded and empty.when i get 7 mpg, they are giving me 47.5 and im useing only 40 cent of it so im 7.5 cpm to the good

Steve,
The thing is, the performance is not a real issue for someone like me, I usually fill up and park for the night. When I get hot fuel, I fill up to the top of the tank and then when it cools I lose a few gallons of fuel due to contraction, even in the desert.

I got a spreadsheet I created .....somewhere that shows what exactly I lose with the the specific temps in the tank and out the nozzle. and the new combination. I would pull out my infrared themo checking device, check the interior tank temp and then as it filled I could get the nozzle temp and then the final temp. sometimes the fuel was 98 degrees, one time my hand was burning just holding the nozzle. Well I plug the numbers in and there it was, how much I lost at the temps. I wish I could find that spreadsheet to show you but I can't find it, I think it got lost in the move.

Greg,i dont fill up then go to sleep,i had all my fuel stole one time, thats to expensive.I guess there is a hot fuel issue,I just havent paid attention to it.in the summer, ive had a hot nozzle, winter time not really found that.i have touched the fuel to see if it were hot,not been that bad.when you go to the TA,they have a note on the side of their pumps about the hot fuel, have you seen that?
