Has anyone with a 2007 Sprinter, or anyone with a 2007 truck with the new gov’t mandated emission systems have a “handle†on what kind of fuel additives to use? After being in the truck stop business for so many years Howe’s, Power Service, and Lucas always seemed to work in years 2006 and before. I have been told, and have picked up bits and pieces off the internet that one has to be extremely careful about what type and amount of additive to use. As we all know use of any type of starting fluid is a “big no noâ€, but it seems petroleum based additives can cause some problems with the new emission systems. The reply I got from my local Dodge dealer when I inquired was, “Why do you need any additivesâ€? I told him to research it and get back to me, he did and of course their (Dodge’s) parts department has the only recommended additive, I was afraid to ask the cost, since if it holds to form with current pricing philosophy of Dodge parts gold at $800/ oz would probably be cheaper.
With the new ultra low diesel I have been told you lose some lubricity, correct? Then that leads to the “old dam if I do, and dam if I don’t questionâ€. What should one use to prolong the engine life, and prevent gelling in the winter, and yet protect the new emission system? Anybody have some hard facts on how to handle this situation?
