Freightliner/Cummins Idle Timer

I drive a 2000 FL60. Cummins 8.3 Liter. I occasinally idle it for a few hours, but it seems to have an idle timer. After 5 minutes it shuts off, unless i use the cruise and set the idle up. Which automatically sets it at 900 or so, at the perfect point where the truck is shaking like all hell, due to the short exhaust which dumps right under the sleeper. Is there a way to let this thing idle at a lesser RPM and not have it shut off. It's been a great truck/motor combo other than the seat (see garman's previous seating post in this section) but I'd like to idle and be able to sleep. Plus lower idle speed should equal less fuel burned right?

I solved this one on my own. Just made up an idle stick like the Sprinter guys do. Keeps it 20 rpm above idle. Just enough to override the timer.

I had the 2000 version, and now improved ISC 8.3 with the common-rail Bosch system. I had my idle timer programmed for 5 min as well. As you said, you can override with the cruise, and should be able to move the idle down to rock bottom around 700. My idle preset is 950- but when I must idle with A/C, I set it down to 800 or so. I don't have to idle in winter, but if I did, I would go to 950-1000 to keep heat up in cylinders.

Ever thought of replacing it with an ISL? I doubt re-mans are available yet, but that would be my plan vs. an overhaul. I have enough room under the Pete hood to fit it, with the Jake...
