Grasshopper: what you were carrying is a hot property, in the drug [legal] world. An antibiotic that may work against drug resistant bacteria is one of the Holy Grails of pharma research. The overuse of antibiotics has caused bacteria to develop defenses against nearly every antibiotic in existence now, and the docs are having to use the ones [like IV Vancomycin] that are almost as hard on the patient as the infection.

This isn't the strangest load I have ever hauedl. I hauled Highway Star from his truck in the lower parking lot' at was then the Flying J in Des Moines, up to the front door. I hauled Cheri and Brenda (bryan) around a truck stop somewhere in Kentucky. And once again I hauled Cheri and Jeanie (Gotta go) from the TA in Rogers to a nearby restaurant, Maynards, for some decent Cuban samwiches.

I post about the load pictured above because it is common every day stuff that could be purchased at any lumber yard or home improvement store. I picked this load up from an LTL carrier in Kansas City, KS and delivered it to a power plant in Hastings, NE. The load originated from somewhere in Wisconsin.

It consisted of; 6 sheets of 4 x 8x ⅝ plywood, a couple boxes of miscellaneous rags, other boxes that contained duct tape, adjustable wrenches, a miniature paint roller and matching paint tray, and a tube of rosin paper. All items were in the original packaging. I know the contents of this shipment because I had to tear it apart to discover who the actual consignee might be.

General receiving at the power plant had no clue as to who had ordered this. Eventually we discovered that a contractor doing construction work on and addition was the consignee. After delivering I went through beautiful Hasting on my way to I-80. I passed by a Home Depot, Tractor Supply and a WalMart. All of these items could have been purchased between these 3 stores.

I guess that it got expedited from KC was because the LTL carrier guaranteed a delivery date and couldn't meet that date. Why someone would have shipped this stuff by an LTL carrier originally, rather than buying it locally is beyond me.

I didn't take pictures of it but I took 28 large computer disks from a building in Cincinnati and took it to a warehouse type storage place in Tulsa. Was followed by an escort and was given a two way radio. Every time I wanted or need to stop he stopped and he butted his car right up to my bumper. Come to find out what I was hauling was all of Coca Cola recepies for their all of their drinks. The load was estimated at 2 mil. The minute we got to consignee and he located his contact he was gone. Spent the night with the freight in a secured yard and was unloaded first next morning.

Funny.. Use to get loads like this all the time when I was with the Canadian based carrier and taking em out east. US freight..Picking up maybe 35 or 40 miles from the house..Going home was a good chance of drawing one of these. Now with a US based carrier I dont see em anymore. Kinda kewl doing stuff like this..

Moot, one thing I considered about your load of lumber-- but then discarded the notion because there must be places nearby to get decent lumber-- was the difficulty you might have getting good, straight lumber. Home Depot is probably the last place I'd look because the two-by-fours are crooked and the plywood is anything but flat-- and for some jobs that's kinda important. I work with a building contractor from time to time, he doesn't go to the Home Depot- type stores for much because they mostly sell junk lumber.

About freight I've hauled--- well, the stuff I had the last couple of days would top the list. 13 boxes of bearings. Somebody wanted it awful bad, and wanted to make sure the order wasn't screwed up. Hollywood celebrities don't get photographed as much as these 13 boxes did, making sure there were in fact 13 of them and making sure the house airbill number was correct. I got more phone calls in 15 minutes on these boxes than I've gotten on the past 50 loads. Funny thing, they didn't look out of the ordinary otherwise. 13 boxes, total weight about 525 lbs--- nothing special except the panic over them.
