Freight in the southeast?

Can some of you long timers give me your opinion of expediting in the southeast. I live in the upstate of SC (Same exit as the BMW plant) and would like to get into the business. I see that most of the companies out there are based in Great lakes area and service the big three (Ford, Chrysler and GM). Having that in mind what are the chances of me being able to pay the bills without having to spend weeks at a time in MI without ever getting home?

Anyone out there haul car parts to BMW in Greer SC? If so, what companies do you see there alot?

Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

Oh, i'm retired and getting a good retirement and health insurance so I'm not looking to make a mint. My idea of a successful month would be paying all the bills and having 1K left over...and not having to drive 15K miles to get that left over 1K!

The southeast has been the largest growth area for expedited carriers. You should not have any problems in getting out and back to the house on a regular basis!

Yes there is freight in the Southeast! There is a lot of automotive moving out of your area. Some in between. Mostly going out of the South going to the mid-west. I've talked to several drivers from your area that stay real busy. Check with some of the local companies around GSP area. This past week I've been to Duncan 4 times Greenville 2 all hotshots bith back hauls. None of it was automotive.

There is some freight in your area- I live in Augusta, GA and have been dispatched several times to go to the Spartanburg area. I've picked up and delivered in Duncan as well as Clinton a few times. With my company, Landstar Express, I also get load out of Atlanta and Charlotte.
