Freight apps ...

With all the downward pressure on carriers & owner/ops, how long before someone creates an easy, seamless way for direct customers to ship freight? Something that is real time & less cumbersome ...

These folks just hired on someone that served as the Director of Business Development at XPO. Gotta imagine she knows a thing or two ...

Kinda like the lyft or uber of freight?! or why not Juno! I know a Austin Tx based company that could use some innovation and updates :)

Great minds think alike. I ranted about this in a thread, think it was titled brokers . . . matter of time, there's some stuff on the Internet now that pays well if you dig

Edit: prospective shippers good luck getting paid, hope you have time for small claims court . .

The apps are not quite ready for prime time yet as far as eBay style payment protection...also people have expectations of low rates, used to sending FedEx style where many packages bring down the cost of shipping

That's exactly what I've been saying. Didn't know they were that far along, albeit in 2 markets

There was a thread on it in here a couple of years ago. I forget, and can't find it now. But it was discussed at more length in Mailer's thread from August of last year, a couple of weeks or so before you joined up. It's worth reading, I think.

I have some friends in the TL segment who have tried Convoy up in the Pacific northwest. They shared some rates. Nothing to get jazzed about but not as bad as comparable rates around me, actually much better, although it was open deck freight so not the same. Not sure how it compared to broker pay going rates on similar freight around there. Can't imagine it was far away from them. The market always finds that balance good or bad. I stick to the southeast and midwest so really have no clue about spot rates outside of my areas.

Uber, Convoy or whatever capitalizes on this - they all alledge they are cutting out the "middleman" when in reality they are just a newer version of the same old middleman - is not going to change rates trucks move for. It's difficult to hide the fact there are just too many trucks out here right now just as a few years ago it was difficult to not realize there were drastic shortages of trucks at times. That will always be the natural driver of ad-hoc rates. Who the middleman is or isn't or what they take is irrelevant.

Looks like a new "uShip". Seems like they're promoting cheap freight.

Take a closer look ...

Anyone can transport something on Uship. No prerequisites - no authority, MC#, or insurance. Nothing except for a ride & a pulse. Let's say your Uncle Bob & his wife, no offense Unclebob :p, are driving 400 mi to see their daughter in college twice a year. Uncle Bob watches a little reality tv & says ... hey, I can do that! It might pay for fuel & the hotel. Why not?

Cargomatic looks like its directly aimed at replacing brokers. Also the technology looks pretty cool.

Now how people will use this technology is a different story. Who actually operates in that marketplace, rates, etc .... is left to be determined.
