Exactly, it's all about the mighty dollar for most of them. I know businesses are in the business to make money. I just find it sad that at most truck stops (oops, I mean travel centers), I can't even get a free $1.29 cup of coffee, that actually cost them about a quarter, when I just purchased $400 worth of fuel. I do miss when drivers meant something to "truck stops".

Well I know that these places are cheap but here is something that really gets me.

I go to the McDonald's, Arby's, Subway, Wendy's or what ever it is. I get a value or special meal with an Ice Tea with no sugar. I look around and see they have sugar (can't have), Sweet and Low and equal (both make me sick like Aspartame does) but not Splenda so I go over into the coffee area, take 5 packets and put them into my tea. Now most of the time it is not a big deal but there has been 5 or 6 times where I was told not to do that again and once at a T/A I was told by the security idiot to dump the tea and get another one. I spent $300 for fuel, I paid $6 for the meal and a lot of the times, I buy a few bucks worth of snacks. I feel if there is a restaurant is in the truck stop, then the franchise is owned by the truck stop and they make money all the way around.

Any companies buying dinner for their contractors when they are on the road? I really think that this would be a good thing to do for them.

I can remember the day when coffee was free to drivers.Alot of times even when you didn't buy fuel now they come up with this point card system bull.pilot if you start off with a new card you can't begin to
use it until you get 500 points on it.that is 500 gallons of fuel b4 you
can get your free cup of coffee. Now that is 1 expensive cup of coffee.I
use to be able to get free showers at certain truck stops whether I fueled or not.Not anymore.

Last year our owner bought our Thanksgiving dinner. I thought it was a nice token of appreciation. We were in the Seattle area and found a nice little family owned restaurant, they didn't have parking but was right beside a strip mall that was closed, so we parked in it. The food was great, real turkey, ham, salad or soup, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoe cassarole, cranberry salad, steamed green beans almadine, pumpkin pie and coffee all included. Although I do have to say it wasn't the same as being home. I didn't have to cook, do dishes, didn't have to listen to any family arguements nor did I have to feel obligated to stay up and entertain when I wanted to do is take a nap. Seriously, I do hope to find a nice little family restaurant again this year, I really don't want to eat where I eat all year long.

Once again Landstar is footing the bill for dinner (up to $12) at any full service TA resturant on both Thanksgiving and Christmas for all drivers working those days or away from home.

I know it's not fine dining and I/we know we'll not be getting the Turkey dinner due to past experences and the Buffet will be passed by as well....but what the heck?....we feel that someone knows we're out here away from home.

Having said that!....I want to wish everyone and their families a happy and safe Holiday Season!

And thats what is all about...A little thoughtfulness makes this job alot more tolerable.

Best wishes to you and yours!:)
