Ford Transit

They have been building these in Europe for a while, since 1964 but the latest version is the 2000 platform.

I drove a couple they have (had) here for testing and liked it a little better than the sprinter. They had diesel engines and five speeds but I heard that they will have gassers in them if they hit the US market as Ford has claimed.

Hi

I hope so but I have my doubts.I seen some of the spy pics for the new van and it looks just like the old one except they made the hood longer.Ford needs to quit dragging their feet on getting the Transit to us.If they keep on waiting, Nissan will bring over their Euro van.Which is has a bigger cargo area than the Sprinter.Ford keeps on lossing market shares and just keeps on scratching their heads DAHHHH.

Same way with the Volvo cabover cab and chassis.Big seller in Eurupe but isn't even marketed here. They come with a factory sleeper and can handle a 26 foot cargo box.A guy at Thompson had one brought over from England ran it for 3 years sold it to my buddy who ran it for another 3 years then sold it to a guy in Otterville ON.I still see it running up and down the 401.The thing is like the Enegizer bunny it just keeps going and going.Easier to drive than a stupid car.

What do we get Flatliners,Putterbuilts and Hiney's.LOL Guess they figure we all want a hood.

Volvo cabover was here as a medium truck for some time, but obviously couldn't sell enough to make it worthwhile. It had a Cat 3126 standard engine and Eaton-Fuller transmission. Probably was part of the White-Volvo-GM collaboration back in the late 80's.
Even the Mack cabover and UD's (Ugly Duck)are now gone- all that's left are the GM Forwards (read former Isuzu), and perhaps Ford/Sterling Cargo in class 6-7.

Simon,

Are you sure the uds are out of production?

I checked the website and can't find them anywhere, but I saw a bunch of brand new ones a couple weeks ago being piggy backed somewhere. They were shiny and new and they weren't the Refuse COE models but UDs.
